Hi maryseppanen
You can delet you files this way...the other problems may go away after you do this
BE SURE NOT TO DELETE YOUR FIRWARE, ONLY THE SONGS,FILES,ETC.
Deleting Files,Pictures,Videos,Audio Books, Apps, etc. from MP3 Player/Ipod ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hook up your mp3 player to your computer Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer" When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there. Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible. Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release, right click and then click on "Delete" Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want. BE CAREFUL and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

You only have to go to the album that the song is listed on, play the song, go to memo and one of the choices will be to delete the song, but you can only do it from the album listing.
I found I had to wait a bit for the deleted songs to actually commit on the MP3 player. Moreover you might have to 'empty recycle bin' or trash or whatever to get it to happen...and wait a bit for this to be communicated over.
It sounds like you want to verify that the songs are there and copy them back to your PC, though. They shouldn't have disappeared from the PC....
Have you tried updating the firmware. Even if it is the lastest edition, download the firmware manually and run the software.
Then format in Windows Media player.
Best Regards
Keith
