How to activate the very top row of keys: SLEEP, CALCULATOR, INTERNET etc..?

Press and hold the ON and the top-row-third-key-from-the-left keys simultaneously, and then release them.If that doesn't do it, press and hold the ON, top-row-leftmost, and top-row-right-most keys simultaneously, and then release them.It that doesn't do it, turn the calculator over. Straighten a paper clip and poke it into the small hole below the bump (upper-right). Hold it there for a second and then remove. (You may have to do one or both of the keyboard steps above as well).

To halt the calculator and reset the keyboard, follow the procedure below:

1. Press and hold the [C] key.
2. Press and hold the third key from the left on the top row.
3. Release both keys at the same time.
4. The calculator will now display "0.00" (if the number of decimal places is set to two.)

To completely reset the calculator and erase all user memory, follow the procedure below:

1. Press and hold the [C] key.
2. Press and hold the first key from the left (the N key) and the first key from the right (the sigma +) on the top row. Release all three keys at the same time.
3. You should see "ALL CLr" on the display.
4. Pressing the [C] key will clear the message.
5. The calculator will display "0.00."

If you are referring to the "touch pad" on Laptop/notebook, if the touchpad on your laptop is not working and is unresponsive, it's not broken, you or someone else has accidently deactivated it with the function key.

Then you can try this,
Most laptops (if not all) come with a function key. The function key is labelled "Fn" and usually stands out from the rest - either the "Fn" is in a different color or the key as a whole. The function key works in conjunction with other keys on the keyboard especially the ones in the top row marked "F1" to "F12". The combination of function key with these keys lets you perform various tasks quickly such as shutting the screen, putting the computer in sleep mode, switching the wireless connection on and off etc.

By keeping the function key pressed and then hitting one of the keys ("F1" to "F12"), activates a task. You can activate and deactivate the touchpad by using the function key with the "F8" key.

On the very top row, the 4th button over says "log." You would key that in and then key in what you are taking the log of. Something to note, calculators can only key in a log of base 10.

Fn + Numlock normally turn off the number lock on most portables

The inverse key is marked "1/x" (second key on the third row). The natural logarithm key is marked "LN" (fourth key on the top row).

If the calculator has locked up you should perform a reset.

1. Press and hold the [C] (ON/OFF) key
2. Press and hold the [LN] key (third key from the left on the top row).
3. Release both keys simultaneously. T
4. The calculator should display "0.00" (if the number of decimal places is set to two.)

If that does not bring it to life you should perform a full memory reset

1. Press and hold the [C] (ON/OFF) key.
2. Press and hold the first key from the left ( the Square root x key) and the first key from the right (the SIGMA+ key ) on the top row.
3. Release all three keys at the same time.
4. Calculator should display "ALL CLr".
5. To clear the message press the [C] (ON/OFF).
6. The calculator should display "0.00."

If the calculator does not respond as expected,

• Remove the batteries, and
  
• with a metallic coin (and what coin is not metallica) short-circuit the calculator's electrical terminals.
  
• Maintain the coin for about ten seconds.
• Replace the batteries (preferably fresh ones) respecting the diagram inside battery compartment.
• The Calculator should display "ALL CLr".
• To clear the message press the [C] (ON/OFF).
• The calculator should display "0.00."

If the calculator does not respond to the foregoing procedures, remove the batteries and leave them out of the calculator for 24 to 48 hours to drain capacitors.
