i have a apple ipod A1199 my little brother got a hold of it now its in some forien language that i cant read how do i get the menue to read american again?

No problem, you'll just need to do a full reset to restore the language to English.

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

I need to change the language on my ipod

  1. The first task would be to remove your iPod from any computer it is attached to.
  2. Next go to the main menu by pressing the "Menu" button. It should then read "iPod" on the display screen2.gif.
  3. To choose the language of an iPod Nano, or later generation iPod, go to the bottom of the Menu screen until you reach the "Settings" option.
  4. Choose "Settings" by selecting it. At this point you should now have opened the "Settings" menu. The "Settings" option to choose is located on the list as the second option from the bottom.
  5. Then in the "Settings" menu go down until you highlight the "Language" selection.
  6. Choose the "Language" option. At this point you should now be inside the "Language" menu. The "Language" option to choose is located on the list as the third option from the bottom.
  7. Choose the language you would like to display on your iPod based on the list provided.

language choice on my brand new ipod

Hey tkcccombs,

If you've accidentally chosen the wrong display language, there are a couple of steps you can try to reset the default language.

First, I would suggest attempting to reset the iPod. You can generally do this by first toggling the "Hold" button from the "On" to "Off" position, and then pressing (and holding) both the "Menu" and center "Select" button for six to eight seconds. According to information provided by Apple, you may need to repeat this step depending on how long you've had the iPod.

Second, you may wish to try updating your iPod's software using iTunes. This will require that your iPod be connected directly to your computer while the software is being updated.

Next, you'll want to go to disconnect your iPod from your computer once the software update is complete, and go to the main menu by pressing the "Menu" button. The main menu's title should display "iPod" no matter what language you initially chose.

The last step - actually choosing the new language - varies depending on what generation and type of iPod you own, so I'd suggest checking out this link through Apple's support website for specific instructions:

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
