I have a manning bowman coffee percolator and the fuse is blown. Where can I get replacement fuses?

  • Anonymous Jan 16, 2010

I have not been able to find the fuse at any local appliance parts store. Apparently it is not a common fuse?

I couldn't find a replacement fuse for my Manning-Bowman coffee maker, so I repaired it. The fuse consists of three parts: the square end pieces and a rectangular connecting piece between them. (They all look like brass.) They're soldered together, and when the pot gets too hot (as it did when I plugged it in before adding water), the solder melts and the connecting piece drops out, shutting off the pot.
To repair the fuse, you'll need solder, a soldering iron, flux, and a small brush. You can get these supplies at a stained glass hobby shop. Leave the end pieces in place and put the connecting piece between them. Brush a little flux on the pieces, heat the solder and put a bead between the connecting piece and each end piece. Let cool and clean it.

If it's a standard style fuse, I would think any department store, hardware store, appliance parts store, or even grocery store would have them.

If it's a special type, you probably have to call a local appliance parts store or contact the manufacturer.

If you don;t have your owner's manual, you should be able to get their contact information from the dealer you purchased it from.

My emerson mw8992rd continues to run when I plug it in The light inside is dim. but it doesn't heat

The most likely cause is that the fuse for the magnetron/klystron has blown. It is usually somewhere under the cover, if you are not skilled in electrics then I suggest you take it to a repair man the fuse is cheap just a few cents but the repair man will want a bit more!

GE microwave oven model#JVM1441BH04 when you close door on switch activates and oven comes on. Only goes off when door is opened.

HELLO.

the problem your are experiencing with your microwave oven is a failed interlock switch.
Be careful when closing your microwave door. Slamming the door too hard is one of the main reasons that the interlock switch is damaged.

Slamming the microwave door shut can easily blow the microwave fuse, but they can also blow due to problems with the interlock switches.
A microwave oven will not function until the fuse is replaced.

Instruction on how to replace fuse on microwave.

1. Unplug the microwave from the electrical outlet to prevent electrocution. Place the microwave in a well-lit area to be able to locate the fuse.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove the outer cabinet of the microwave, and follow the power cord to the fuse. The fuse is located 2 to 3 inches within the microwave and is attached to the power board.

3. Observe the fuse to determine if it is blown. Blown glass fuses will produce burn marks on nearby surfaces, or the internal fuse wire will be black and melted, while ceramic fuses show no outward appearance of being blown.

4. Determine if a ceramic fuse is blown by testing it with an ohmmeter. If the ohmmeter reads zero ohms, your fuse is not blown. Other readings on the ohmmeter show that your fuse is blown.

5. Replace the blown fuse by popping it out of its holder, and snapping a new fuse in its place. Tighten the fuse clips by squeezing them together with your fingers.

6. Replace the outer cabinet of the microwave, and plug the microwave back into the electrical outlet. Test the microwave to see if it's working properly.

thanks.

I lost the user manual to my 30 + cup coffee percolator and I need to know the amount of grounds to use when brewing coffee!

Hi,
Use approx. 1/2 cup of coffee to 10 cups of coffee....so for a full pot use 1-1/2 cups... then adjust to taste..

A longer screw was put in on the part that holds up the cover over the light on the bottom of the microwave. Must have made contact with something inside because now it does not work. Is it ruined?

Hi,
If you have shorted out the internals, then it can be good or bad. Disconnected the oven before doing anything. Be very careful when working on mains powered appliances like this. never operate with the covers removed. If you are unsure, then you should seek the advice of a professional to look at it for you. Remove the screw if you have not done so already, see if it works. If not, then inspecting the internal fuse would be the next thing to do. Remove the covers, and check for a blown fuse, replace only with the correct type of fuse designated for the oven. You can get one from most any appliance repair places. If the fuse is blown, and replacing the fuse does not return the oven to operation, then you have damaged other areas of the oven. It may not be economic to repair. Man Made faults are often the worst to fix, as anything, and everything may be damaged. Good luck. Please take a moment to rate my solution given to you here. Cheers

Vintage Manning-Bowman Percolator fix-it guy says thermostat bad

Greetings,

I have an "Atomic" globe type art deco Manning Bowman percolator from 1947. It does not have a thermostat, just a fuse.

If your pot is blowing the fuse, are you using one with the correct amperage for the pot? This pot pulls 350 watts which works out to 3.18 amps. watts/volts=amps. You'd need a fuse that would allow the heating element to generate a minimum of 350 watts before blowung.
