Memorex CD Clock Radio # 2863. Broken latch .. will not hold down top cover

The latch that holds down the top cover (CD access area) will not engage when the top is pushed down (top stays open all the time). The part is a small black latch and fits in a cut out in the housing of the unit. It is a stand alone piece and it appears to be easy to replace. Can yout tell me how to obtain the part?

Please email me at [email protected]

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the same exact problem and found on the Memorex website that they use Fox Electronics for their parts (1-800-321-6993). They have the part for $8 plus $12 in shipping. A new cd clock radio will cost more so I will probably drop the $20 on that little part. I have not been able to find anyone else that supplies the same part.

Memorex CD /Boom box -CD lid will not latch. Stays open all the time. There is a black latch on the right corner inside. Is the part available and can I fix it myself

I have the same proplem Memorex should look at this as Difict in there product.

WE own two of these CD clock radios and both, within a few months, had the same issue whereby the female end of the latch to close the lid to active the CD player broke at the main stress point, causing non-functionality of the CD player and remains open, collecting dust and other airborne debris.

I contacted Memorex's Customer service and was highly disappointed to learn about the Fox International cost/solution. I have come to two conclusions....

It is NOT worth the cost and Memorex is NOT worth my business in the future. The issue is clearly a product defect as they selected a polymer blend that cannot endure the less-than regular usage over the anticipated lifetime of the product. Vote with your wallet! Memorex is out; too cheap for me.

I have the same problem. Black latch will not keep cover shut, but does not appear broken. There was no predictive indication of this failure, it just happened. I removed the lid spring, but this did not completely solve the problem - lid stays shut, but not enough for the CD player to work without manual intervention.

The lid stays open. It seems that the part of the latch on the unit was not strong enough to hold the latch on the lid and split.
I tried using super glue to glue the split sides back - without any success. I tried to use small rubber band - it keeps that lid closed for a while, but the rubber band is not strong enough.
This was a gift to my 6yo son. I'm VERY disappointed.

Also have the same problem, clock sat on the night stand for a couple of years. Wife took into work to play CD's at the Christmas Party and the latch failed.

Think we may have used it once or twice as a CD player.

The black latch was easy to remove, justed open up the radio and pushed in the ears on the latch and it slipped back up into the CD compartment.

Will see if I can find something to repair it. Looked like the side cracked and a housing lost some of its side.

    Found what matches the latch.

Sugatsune mini touch latch P/N PR-4PK

    Even the side opening matches.

How do I set the time

To set the time on a Memorex Mi4604PBLK Clock Radio, hold down the 'set time' button first and then the 'source' button, at the same time. But you must push the buttons in that order, 'set time' and then 'source'. The time display on the front will flash between dim and bright. Use the volume dial to change the time. Time is set, and the flashing display will stop after a few seconds.

I need to installl a cd player in my car and i cant get the thing that holds the radio and heater off.

You will have to remove the dash cover to gain access to that bezel piece. That bezel actually extends around the instrument cluster and and radio area, all one piece. The dash cover is held on by a series of torx screws located under the top defrost vent, side access panels (when you open the car doors, there is a panel on each side). In the glove box area and there are two 10 mm bolts that are tucked up under in the glove box area but accessible. After you remove the dash cover, you can remove the torx screws that hold the bezel in place. On the bezel down by the radio, there are spring clips that hold that part of the bezel. Remember when replacing the stock OEM radio, you will need to buy a mounting hardware kit, wiring harness kit and antenna kit for the Cavalier that will work with your new cd player.

After battery ran low, now radio will not power up with power button.

Make sure you don't have the HOLD button engaged. This button is what keeps your station buttons, power, etc., from accidently switching when you bump it.

This button is found on the top right hand side of the radio if you are looking down on the radio with the clock display facing you.

If the button is showing the red painted mark, you have the HOLD button engaged. Switch it off, and then press the Power button to turn on the radio.

Top popped off.

I just removed the cover from my wave radio. There are 3 screws that hold the top cover on. Two are exposed and in the rear of the unit and the other is under the CD player lid.

To replace the cover find the two tabs in the front on the bottom cover. Slide the top on and using a screwdriver carefully pry back the front of the top cover so that the two tabs slip by and move into place. Then open up the CD player cover and make sure the spindle fits through the hole in the top cover. Push down and replace the screws.

I didnt remove the ribbon cable so you will have to check on how to refit the connector.

I had the same problem with the "roay" dude. I did not have an "F" button. Try this...there is an "Audio" button to the top right of my display. Hold this button until the clock numbers blink. Use the up and down buttons till you get the time desired. This button will also allow you to change minutes. Thanks "scottcal" for getting me in the right direction.
