I don't have the model number for this range but it's a very old magic chef gas oven. What I need is the oven temperature knob. The knob used to have all of the temperature numbers printed on it however it is so old, the numbers have worn off. Numbers were in white lettering.

If you go any hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot) they have universal knob replacement kits. Take your old knob with you and ask for help from someone who looks like they know something (the old guy). Its so much cheaper this way, exact replacement knobs can run $20 or more each. Good luck!!

I have a gas magic chef wall oven that is a 1993 model. The knob that you turn to turn the oven on and set the temperature is getting very very hard to turn. I called one repairman and he said it is the...

Its quite an old appliance, try www.whitegoods.co.uk you will need the serial number and model number, to order the correct parts. Also ISOLATE THE APPLIANCE BEFORE DOING ANY WORK, lift up the knob for temp control some older models have a small screw under a plastic cap, others just pull off with careful leverage. Spray the rieostate with wd40, move back and forward several times when its wet, it should begin to ease, wait until the wd40 has evaporated, then try the switch. Thermostats come in various types for cookers depending on make and model, but it should be attainable.
Hope this helps you

CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO CALIBRATE THE OVEN. OVEN TEMPERATURE IS OFF 50 DEGREES. INSTALLED A NEW THERMACOUPLE. THIS DID NOT HELP THE PEOBLEM. OVEN WAS PURCHASED IN 1992. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Without the Model Number I can only give you Basic instruction.

If your machine is Digital the best way to calibrate if find the manuel of your machine useing your Model number.

Some of the digital models : select bake and press and hold the up or down Temp button for 5 Sec to enter the calibration mode.

Some models require you do get the temp to over 400 deg befor you can enter the Calibration mode.

If your machine has a turn knob ... Take the knob off and see if there is a small screw in the center... This is the calibration screw.

It;s a global economy now, and you can order and buy spare parts from anywhere for anything. please use these links provided to source your part, and ship it back to the mother land, Aoteroa.
  1. Find the model number on the appliance to be repaired. Look for a gray or silver label on the appliance that lists the model number and serial number. If you cannot find the tag, check the locater featured on PartSelect.com. Click the link marked "Need help finding the model number on your magic chef appliance?" Then click on the type of appliance. The guide will show possible locations for the identification label, along with a sample label for visual reference. The URL is listed in the resources section below.

  2. Use the part number to make ordering simple. Look closely at the part you intend to replace. A part number will be printed or inscribed on any part that is large enough to display at least six digits.

  3. Order parts from appliance retailers. Call local USA appliance shops and ask if they sell parts. If so, get a price quote for your part and ask if it's in stock, or how soon it could arrive.

  4. Order from online parts dealers. Use your appliance model number and part description or part number to check online parts dealers for prices and ship times. PartSelect.com, RepairClinic.com and AppliancePartsPros.com all sell Magic Chef parts online. The Magic Chef website may also be able to provide needed parts. It also lists owners manuals, warranty information and installation instructions for their appliances (see Resources).

  5. Compare prices and order fulfillment times between local retailers and online dealers. Most online dealers will offer lower prices. A local dealer may have to wait for your part to ship from their supplier. The shipping time between local and online dealers may not vary.

Old Magic Chef Gas Oven won't light

sounding like thermostat isn't working. If you could ohm out the t-stat should be closed when you call for heat. If that passes the test then only thing it could be is the gas valve.
