Okay, to connect to Xbox Live using Wireless Internet you will need this:

One Xbox Wireless connection unit, There are two types, the black and white versions. The black one is able to pick up the most diverse signals and has a higher potential for speed so I recommend that one.
You will also need, of course, a high speed internet source (modem) and a wireless router connected to the modem. When looking for wireless routers look for ones with marks claiming to be compatible with Xbox Live or a Windows OS. Those have been tested to work with Xbox.

Before trying to set up your Xbox Live, make sure your Router is set up with your computer, and set to be used as a wireless router. That's another tip all together but just follow your installation CD.

Okay so here we go!

First, Connect the wireless networking adapter to the back of your Xbox.
If you have a network cable plugged into your xbox, unplug it. Check to make sure the adapter's light is on.

Here's what the light's mean:
On the gray adapter:
No light: It's not getting enough power( try plugging it another USB slot)
Green light: It is connected to a wireless router, gateway or wireless access point.
Red light: It is not connected, and is ready for configuration.
Flashing red: There is a malfunction. (try again, if the problem persists return it for a replacement)

On the black adapter:
No light: It's not getting enough power( try plugging it another USB slot)
Green light: It is connected to a wireless routerhow do you setup xbox live with a wireless - 2_bing.gif, gateway or wireless access point.
Flashing green: The adapter is attempting to connect to a wireless router, gateway, or access point.
Red light: It is not connected, and is ready for configuration.
Flashing red: There is a malfunction. (try again, if the problem persists return it for a replacement)

Now the CONFIGURATION, the reason most of you are reading this:

Turn your Xbox on and go to "My Xbox"
Go to "System Settings"
Go to "Network Settings"
Go to "Configure Network"
On the basic settings tab select "Wireless mode"
Select "Scan for Networks"
Select your Wireless source.

NOTE: If your Network isn't listed you will have to manually enter it.
To do this select "Specify unlisted network"
You will need to enter your SSID
Then choose which security you used to set it up on your Computer (ie: WPA, WEP...) Then enter your security code. If there is no code then select "no security"

Your adapter should have a green light now.

Now go back to "Network Settings" and select "Test Xbox Lihow do you setup xbox live with a wireless - 2_bing.gif="/uploads/images/2_bing.gif" alt="2_bing.gif" class="h_mi" /> Connection"

If it works your good to go!

Am trying to get xbobx live for my nephews birthday, hes got the xbox 360 ellite, but its not the shinny latest model do i need a wireless adapter as well as the router that came with my broadband, but we...

If you do not have a router that you can plug directly into the back of the Xbox 360 then yes you will need to purchase a wireless router to sync up with your wireless router that you already have downstairs. You didn't specify if your broadband router had wireless capabilities? Does it? If not then you will need to buy a wireless router to be able to hook up your Xbox 360.

Microsoft has their own personal wireless router that fits on the back of the Xbox 360 nicely. I would recommend you purchase it due to ease of installation and compatability.

Here is a link to an example of what it looks like: http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/accessories/xbox-360-wireless-n-networking-adapter/76045?ref=recpdp&cross=802124

And a cheaper older model: http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/accessories/xbox-360-wireless-network-adapter/40678

And here is a link to Xbox step by step wirless hookup: http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-live/get-started/connecting/wireless.aspx

If you are having specific issues then ask away and I can see what I can do to help you out. Try to be specific on what your current setup is and what problems you are having. thanks.

Trying to connect a wired network wirelessly to a router

No. You'll need to run a "cross-over" Ethernet cable from one of the "LAN" ports on the "downstairs" router, connecting to the "WAN" port on another router that you will need to buy, and place "upstairs", and connect the 4 devices to the 4 "LAN" ports.

Or, run a long "straight-through" Ethernet cable from your DSL-modem (or cable-modem) that is "downstairs", and move your wireless router "upstairs", and connect the 4 devices to the router's "LAN" ports.
Your laptop "downstairs" should still be able to connect (wirelessly) to the wireless-router that is "upstairs".

Can't pick up wireless internet through router

You need to have the specific wireless adapter made for the Xbox 360. It runs about $100. Other wireless adapters (for some reason) will not work. I tried 6 different ones before I gave up and hard wired the Xbox 360.

Xbox Live Connection Interrupted

Ok, all you have to do when it comes to buying a wireless reciever is to buy the microsoft brand one made for xbox live. (100 dollars) Once you have this;
1. turn of the xbox 360 and plug in the adapter.
2.turn on the 360 and go to the network settings option
3. this should bring up a page offering a view of you ip address and ect., go to the bottom link (3rd), and select it.
4. this should give you the option to select your wireless network, then connect to it and test the xbox live connection.
5. Once you pass the test, continue to hit "b" until you are back at the very main menu and begin playing!
