Heating elementglowing bright red funny smell

Heating element glowing bright red funny smell less than 5 years old double oven problem in the bottom oven

  • Jacqueline Gibbons Nov 19, 2012

My oven is also glowing red when I turn it on and is burning food but not cooking it. Had an electrician look at it, he thinks it may be the Motherboard but is not certain. Also the instant grill is no longer working. Can anyone help?

I
make sure the fan is working o/k, because if it is not, then the element will get bright red hot.
If the fan is working o/k, then the element will still get red hot, but not bright red.
If the fan is not working, then it needs replacing.

Probably a relay on main Power Circuit Board is stuck. Requires repair. PCB no longer available.

Frigidaire PLEB30T8CCB Double wall oven - heating to temp, but not maintaining.

Your wiring diagram and parts schematics are here in the link below. Normally the bottom element does glow read hot after a couple of minutes. Broil elements last a lot longer because they aren't used as much. There is only one Control Board. If I was guessing, I would say the temperature sensor is at fault. Elements either work, or they don't, but you can easily test continuity with a meter. Many parts are discontinued.

Broiler will not come on when baking

Take a look at the element ( the "tube" inside the oven that glows red hot when the oven is turned on). If the element is burned out it will not be hot and glowing. You may have a loose connection to the element but most likely it is burned out and needs replacing.
Our stove is 27 years old and I have had to replace top or bottom elements every 6 years or so. I just bought a replacement element at Canadian Tire in Calgary for about $34. Just undo the 2 screws around the element and attach the new element to the old wires.
Good Luck -I hope this works for you

Hotpoint uy46 style line stainless steel, 2 year old, main oven fan takes 20 to 25 mins to start then runs too slow and some times stops, but the heat element is glowing red and very hot

The symptoms you describe are an indication that the fan motor is in imminent danger of breaking down altogether.
You need to replace it as soon as possibe, otherwise you will end up with the element burning itself out, thus doubling the cost of repair.

Thankyou.

The fan and oven light in bottom oven works but not heat.

The heating element is the likely culprit as they burn out and go open
circuit..(ie ...disconnected and will not heat up )
If you can use a multi-meter , then the element can be tested using the resistance range (with the oven SWITCHED OFF )

Bottom oven doesn't heat after running self-clean cycle

Usually, when an oven won't heat, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.

Yes it will need a new element, if the fan runs and temperature light comes on then the element is gone.

Frigidaire Model EGF337Ecc oven not heating. element is bright orange you smell the gas but burner does not come on

If the ignitor is weak, it will not open the safety valve. It WILL however glow, but it's not strong enough to release the gas. The ignitor should pull at least 3 amps, any less, it won't open the safety valve for gas to flow. Repl. the ignitor, it should be fine.

Won't heat!!!

First, are the burners working right? It is possible that a breaker opened. Cycle your breakers off and then on. Its a shot....

How many elements in your oven? Sounds like one fried. Start the unit with the door open. See which element doesn't glow after a few minutes. Wait for cooldown, open the breakers and then remove it and take it to the appliance repair parts guy to test and replace. Funny...you should have gotten an error code.

Not that? It will likely be the thermister controlling your temp sense.
