How to hookup a hp deskjet f2480 printer without a cd and usb cord. The computer is a dell and the old printer was a dell 720 and that usb cord is being used instead of the usb for the new printer. The computer is telling that there is no internet explorer this will not work and it was put on offline work on msm. It just told me there is no recognition of the usb cord. There is a usb cord there. It is not for the hp deskjet f2480. Itwas from a dell printer 720. Thank you for no help.
Lets think about this for a second:
How do you install the software (drivers, actually) when you dont have the CD?
You go to the manufacturers website and download them to your computer. Make sure you get the driver for the OPERATING SYSTEM you are using on your computer.
How do you connect a printer without a USB cord?
Is your printer 'wireless' or 'bluetooth'? If no, and there is no special HP cord and no parallel port, you cannot connect it. If it requires a wire, it REQUIRES a wire.
Ok, maybe you don't have one - most printers do not come with an appropriate cable. In this case, get one. They are available where ever computer supplies are sold. You ask for a USB Printer Cable. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, Radio Shack, other Big Box store, Joe Blow's computer repair shop. Don't have any such in your area, look at the advertisers here at FixYa.com. You could always go back to the place you bought your printer and get one from them.
The 64 $ question is this: Is your new printer compatable with the Operating System on your computer? ... and how do you know this? Search "microsoft compatability list for (insert the name of your OS)". If your printer is listed by make and model for your OS, that means MS is supporting the printer. If it is NOT listed, MS is NOT supporting the printer, in which case you must go to www.dell.com/support or www.hp.com/support to look for a driver for your OS (NOT for your computer model, necessarily). If one is listed, you should get it. If none is listed, Dell will not support this printer when used by your OS. In this case, you are probably at the end of the road, though there is occasionally a driver available for some printers from third party developers.
Your computer tells you there is no Internet Explorer. Did you use the Windows Search function to look for this program? Start - Search - enter 'Internet Explorer'. When you find it, click on it and see what happens. There is a very good possibility that your short cut is no good. If that is the case, (you will know if the program shows up and runs) create a new shortcut. If it is not there, hopefully your computer is on a network and you can download the program from a variety of sources directly to the computer with no IE. If IE runs but tells you it is off line, click TOOLS, OPTIONS, unclick "work offline". Then try again.
There is no recognition of the USB cord but it is there. You see it, obviously, but the computer cant see it. Guess what, doesn't make any difference if you see it. Replace the cord. FYI, there is USB 1, USB 2 and USB 3 is waiting to be introduced. Which one do you have? Which one does your printer require?
I trust you will find these responses will address your issues and solve your trouble. If you need more assistance, please post a comment to this quesiton.
