I have a Samsung TV # HLP6163WX/XAA. A loud humming sound started and the picture went to black and white. The green "Lamp" and red "standby/temp" lights are flashing on front of the tv. Any ideas on the problem?

Sounds like lamp again-- dark pic. Get quality lamp, need 4 inch space all around TV for cooling. Maybe cleanout dust inside.

It sounds like your lamp needs replacing. It is a very simple procedure if you haven't done it before.

This is typically your color projection drives going out. Soo the picture will go black and white, and the hum will prosist.
It is cheaper to replace the set than it is to replace the Red, Green, and Blue drives; and then have the set re-aligned.
Unless you have a family TV repair guy or know one that loves food! :)

Your lamp is burnt definitely (lamp makes that sound ,take lamp out and You will see inside lamp) no sound ,because unit goes to protect mode and shouts down power

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.

The color wheel needs replacing. Thats causing the whining and it will also make the lamp light blink.

Hi, your color wheel needs to be replaced, the bearings fail causing the grinding noise, the new ones use "air bearings" so they are supposed to last much longer, video-tek

I also have a Samsung HLP6163W 61in TV,had the same problem had to replace the color wheel. Went on youtube showed us how to do it our self. Saved a lot of money very easy. Good luck!

Its probaly oanother tv problem as in it not being assembled right ig=f i were you i would go ahead and take to the retailer form where i brought it from and report this t.v. p.s. you should have some type of guarantee on it first or insurrance before the incidence if not the ur screwed.
