I have a Dimplex CS1205. Plug hot and melted outlet cover.

I have a Dimplex CS1205. It's been working fine for about 3 months, or so I think. Yesterday, I went to plug something else into the outlet and noticed that the Dimplex plug was hot, and the outlet plate was warm. When I unplugged it, the outlet plate was partially melted, and one side of the outlet was a little brown. Advice? Outlet or appliance or both?

Many people think melting plugs and outlets are caused by the appliance that is plugged into them. It is very likly that the outlet is worn or loose or wiring connections are loose or the receptical is faulty. Arcing is a major cause for this condition and all of the above issues can cause arcing. This condition usually only happens when high draw appliances are plugged into the outlet. So a lamp could work fine in the outlet for 10 years then a toaster or heater is plugged in and a loose connection causes current to jump from the receptical to the plug prong which inturn causes tremendous heat.

Get an amp meter and take an amp reading on it. Compare it to the amp rating on the info plate. It could be drawing too much amperage for the outlet. Do not use any other appliances on that outlet when using the heater.

Lisa, apparently there was an electrical overload in the receiver box. I assume this electric stove is new and still under warranty. In which case, armed with your Proof of Purchase, you need to contact Dimplex USA or the retailer you purchased it from.

You definitely have an electrical problem either with the remote box or the the A/C unit itself. Something within either of the aforementioned is overheating and use of the air conditioner should be stopped immediately, as it is a fire risk. Unplug everything from the wall outlet and contact a service company that services Dimplex Air Conditioners. This is not a DIY fix!

The heater does not work, no heat

The relay to the heater coil is probably bad. Depending on how old your unit is will determine if it's worth repairing. Typically, this problem seems to occur after 2 to 3 years. Usually caused by a build up of dust and lint on the heater coil. Often time, the heater switch also plays a roll in this. Check out the Dimplex website for trouble shooting this problem.

The heater plug melted

Induction coil heaters draw very high amperage (12-14 amps) when turned on. If your outlet is worn or old the heater plug prongs will not have a good connection and the current will jump or arc from the outlet to the heater plug prongs. This arcing causes tremendous heat, enough to melt the outlet and the cord end. First thing to do is change the outlet.
