I used the camera control screen on my pc. it worked fine. Now when I start up the software my pc does not recognize the camera as being connected. When I open the eos utility the camera control screen does not open. However, I when turning on the camera with the usb cable connected, the camera screen reads busy for 2 seconds or so. If camera is turned on disconnected it does not read busy. I installed the eos software on another pc just to test. At camera turn-on this pc recognized it, but said it was either not connected or busy. So it does not seem to be a cable connection problem but the camera is somehow busy? Is there a way to reset original condition?
Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Goto any radio shack and get a external memory card reader this will allow you to get your pictures if the camera or cable is defective.

Try to change connection type to PC on camera menu. Maybe you have a print/ppt connection set.
