How do you remove the top cover on a Brother Intellifax 4100e to replace a new CIS (scanning bar)?
Unplug the machine, lift the front of the control panel, at the back of that panel you will see two arms that the cover pivots on. Gently spread them apart while lifting up, not to hard or you will break them. Once it begins to lift out pay attention to the single connector at the back right, remove that connector and place the control panel to one side. Now you will see 2 screws on the front of the feed asembly, remove those. Lift the front of the feed unit up while looking under the front you will note 2 more connectors, one to the scanner and one further back to the drive motor. They are also wrapped around a couple of tie downs. Unwrap and then disconnect the connectors and remove the feed unit. Turn the feed unit over and look at the scanner,at one end you will see a plastic tab, you will press that out of the way and you will be able to slide the scanner back about half an inch. turn it back ovr and remove the scanner. Note that you do not lose the 2 small springs under the scanner. Slide new one in and reassemble. Have fun.
