My ice dispenser is crazy.. I have replaced the solenoid (per repairclinic.com) and I still have to fight it for ice. When I push the lever there is a delay, sometimes I have to switch to water and back to ice. Usually it malfnctions when I have company and its a pain in the butt. Could it be the circuit board behind the controls or the switch that tells it that the door is closed?

Re: Side by side Ref/Freezer
Based on the info you just gave about moving the switch from water and back to ice, I would say the switch. It is a much cheaper part too. If you are capable, and it sounds like you are, remove what you need to to get to the switch. By-pass it by connecting the wires together. If the dispenser works instantly, that's it. If not, then you need to follow the path, probably back to the board.

your GE self defrost is not working. 1. clean the ice and look for the heater element and your lemi switch. If you have a GE profile, they have a motherboard at the back of the ref. if all i the part i mentioned are working, just replaced the motherboard. at searspartdirect.com
Many Kenmore side-by-side refrigerators have an ice and water dispenser
installed on the outside of the freezer door. The ice dispenser has a
flap that opens to allow ice to be released, and closes after dispensing
to keep the cold air inside of the freezer. The dispenser flap is
opened and closed by a solenoid, that when energized pulls the plunger
attached to the flap, opening the door. If the flap stops opening and
closing, it is likely due to a faulty solenoid.
This is a complicated system to diagnose, and one not recommended by the average DIYer. I would recommend in this case to have a qualified whirlpool technician at least inspect and give you a diagnosis. Due to its complicated nature, and the difficulty in accessing all the parts needed to test, if done incorrectly, you could further damage the door, or the dispenser module.
I have a LG GRP207TUJA side by side freezer, which has a water, ice, crushed ice dispenser. There is a button to select which mode of dispenser. The freezer just appears to be cycling through all the selections all by itself and make the bleeping noise as it moves from one selection to another...any ideas
