My son put the stove onto clean by mistake (instead of broil). He closed the door because "door" was flashing on the display then realised he'd hit the wrong button so did a cancel.

Door is now locked. Tried doing a short clean to trick it - but "door" flashes for 10 seconds, stove buzzes, it clicks out of clean mode and stays locked...

Had the same problem, dicovered that if you press and hold clear for three seconds, it will still show as locked, but will allow you to open the door. It started to beep and became very annoying. So, what I discovered was that if you open the door, leave it open while pushing clear for three seconds again, it will reset and be back to normal. I was able to use the oven immediately with no problems.

I held down the clear button for three seconds, it unlocked but still showed the lock button lit. It began beeping over and over. I opened the door and pressed the clear button again for three seconds. It stopped and the oven works just fine now. In fact, I used it right after I got it cleared out.

Had the same problem, I held the clear botton for 3 seconds and it allowed me to open the door. As the door was open, I held the clear button for three seconds until an error message came up. I quickly closed and opened again and it clear it up. Back to normal.
Hope this helps.

I had the same thing and with some sheer luck, I was able to open the door. Don't ask me how but I started pressing buttons. One of them was holding down on the STOP button. It will beep and flash "Door Locked" and the display will show LOC. I tried this a couple of times before even trying to open the door only to realize the door was unlocked. Hope this helps. After awhile, the beeps will go away and the door stays unlocked.

I held the "Stop" button down for 3 seconds: this unlocks the oven (give the latch a few seconds to release the door), but the lock icon is still displayed and the burners are still inoperable.....but the oven works!

  • Anonymous Dec 25, 2009

We just realize that the reason the Burners were not working, is because they were locked. To unlock the burners, hold down the "CLOCK" button for 3 sec. The lock icon stays lit until both are unlocked (Kenmore Elite c970).

We had the same problem and the company would not offer any solutions. Thanks to this site we pushed clear for 3 seconds and could open the door. When we tried to push clear again for 3 seconds so that the beeping would be cleared, an error message popped up. We started over and once the door was open, we closed and opened it quickly again, somehow fooling the door. We heard a click and the problem was solved.

The Kenmore Gas Range cost big money! Sears is aware of this problem and still continues to sell this product without informing the consumer! I'm very upset! I too am having this problem and I bought this oven after you all had this problem..,.However no one at the store said ANYTHING about this! I even asked if any customers have had ANY problems with this oven that I should know about.
This was OBVIOUSLY a FRAUDULENT sale, as I know now! Please, lets get the word out as customers, and lets stop the big companies from screwing us!!!!!

I have the same problems twice in 2 years, We are treated like a fool by Searsand Kenmore. First time, I phoned up Sears, fwait for the techician for 2 days. and he would not fix the problem, and I have to wait for one week for him to fix it. so I have to eat out for the whole week, now I have the same problem again, I am so upset and the clean button is a money making machine for Kenmore and Sears.

  • billysmith Nov 28, 2010

I will not buy a Kenmore product and Sears again

  • mrfixit1970 Nov 29, 2010

A Kenmore could be made by LG, GE, Whirlpool, etc. Sears doesn't make anything. They put a Kenmore label on someone elses stuff. FYI.

Kenmore Elite Duel Oven gas kitchen range. Model 66578003801.No ERROR codes. Lower oven LOCK light flashing.

a hard reset can be most beneficial for assisting in this matter so, have you tried unplugging your appliance for 5 minutes to do a hard reset yet? If unplugging is not easy, turn off the breaker for 5 minutes and do the same thing.

I have a Kenmore Electric range model 790.41072100. The cooktop burners do not work. Everything else works, Oven, clock, warmer drawer etc.

How to Reset a Kenmore Elite Stove Oven
  1. Press the "7" button on the Kenmore Elite keypad.
  2. Continue holding the "7" button for at least six seconds until a single beep sounds.
  3. Press the "Start" button on the keypad once. This will reset the oven back to the factory default settings.

How do I unlock the cooktops on Kenmore Elite Electric Range model #C970-440935

Clear the lock mechanism -- as indicated by the DOOR LOC light -- by pressing and holding in the oven door light switch for 20 to 30 seconds. While the switch is depressed, the latch motor will gradually withdraw the lock, allowing you to open your oven door.

Kenmore elite oven door shows door locked how to unlock it

https://www.hunker.com/12438447/how-to-unlock-a-locked-oven-door-on-a-kenmore-range

How to Unlock Locked Oven Door on Kenmore Range Hunker

Quoting from the link shown:
Step 1 Read the display on the electronic oven controls, where the clock and timer normally appear. If the display reads "CLN" while the "Door Locked" light is on, the Kenmore range is in self-clean mode. When the Kenmore range is in self-clean mode, you must stop the cleaning process before the door will unlock.
Step 2 Stop the self-cleaning process by pressing and holding the "Stop/Clear" button for three seconds. The oven lock should disengage after three seconds. In some cases, a malfunction between the control panel and the locking mechanism prevents the door from unlocking.
Step 3 Hold the light switch for several seconds if the "Stop/Clear" button fails to unlock the range door. Engaging the light switch for several seconds resets the entire locking mechanism and overrides the "Stop/Clear" button.

Whirlpool loc

From a google search the following is copied:

LOC is a control panel lock not a door lock, see below.

The Control Lock shuts down the control panel pads to prevent
unintended use of the ovens.
When the control is locked, only the CLOCK, TIMER SET and
TIMER OFF pads will function.
The Control Lock is preset unlocked, but can be locked.
To Lock/Unlock Control: Before locking, make sure the ovens,
Timer and Timed Cooking are off. Press and hold START/ENTER
until a single tone sounds and "Loc," a picture of a lock and
"START?" will appear on the oven display, about 5 seconds.
Repeat to unlock and remove "Loc" from display.

If the above does not work have you tried removing power from the uit for a few minutes to see if it will reset.

How do you unlock a kenmore elite cooktop?

You can do this by:
Check the oven display to see whether the screen says "LOC." When "LOC" is displayed, the oven lock is activated and the door cannot be opened. You need to make sure it is locked so you do not mistakenly lock the door.

  • 2 Press and hold the "Stop" button on the oven control panel until "LOC" disappears from the display. Some oven models have a button marked "Oven Lock," which should be used instead of the "Stop" button.
  • Lock the oven again by pressing and holding the "Stop" or "Oven Lock" button until "LOC" appears in the display
