Yes that's common, most chronograph watch's a small subdial is the times second hand. The large second hand is only for the timing function of the chronograph.

Watch glossary: C (part2)

C0Ck, see bridge.
COLIMAçONNAGE, see snailing.
COLUMN-WHEEL
Part of chronograph movements, governing the functions of various levers and parts of the chronograph operation, in the shape of a small-toothed steel cylinder. It is controlled by pushers through levers that hold and release it. It is a very precise and usually preferred type of chronograph operation.
COMPLICATION
Additional function with respect to the manual-winding basic movement for the display of hours, minutes and seconds. Today, certain features, such as automatic winding or date, are taken for granted, although they should be defined as complications. The main complications are moonphase, power reserve, GMT, and full calendar. Further functions are performed by the so-called great complications, such as split-second chronograph, perpetual calendar, tourbilon device, and minute repeater.
CORRECTOR
Pusher positioned on the case side that is normally actuated by a special tool for the quick setting of different indications, such as date, GMT, full or perpetual calendar.
COSC
Abbreviation of "Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres" the most important Swiss institution responsible for the functioning and precision tests of movements of chronometers. Tests are performed on each individual watch at different temperatures and in different positions before a functioning bulletin and a chronometer certificate are issued, for which a maximum gap of -4..+4 seconds per day is tolerated.
CôTES CIRCULAIRES
Decoration of rotors and bridges of movements, whose pattern consists of a series of concentric ribs.
CôTES DE GENèVE
Decoration applied mainly to high-quality movements, appearing as a series of parallel ribs, realized by repeated cuts of a cutter leaving thin stripes.
COUNTDOWN TIMER
A function that lets the wearer keep track of how much of a pre-set period of time has elapsed. Some countdown timers sound a warning signal a few seconds before the time runs out. These are useful in events such all kinds of race.
COUNTER
Additional hand on a chronograph, indicating the time elapsed since the beginning of the measuring. On modern watches the second counter is placed at the center, while minute and hour counters have off-center hands in special zones, also called subdials.
CROWN
Usually positioned on the case middle and allows winding, hand setting and often date or GMT hand setting. As it is linked to the movement through the winding stem passing through a hole in the case. For waterproofing purposes, simple gaskets are used in water-resistant watches, while diving watches adopt screwing systems (screw-down crowns).
CROWN WHEEL
Wheel meshing with the winding pinion and with the ratchet wheel on the barrel-arbor.
CRYSTAL
The clean cover over the watch face. Three types of crystals are commonly found in watches: acrylic crystal, mineral crystal and sapphire crystal .

Want to use larger second hand and set other to zero. have small one working now and the larger one would work if i pressed the top button on side of watch now it wont do anything if i press button dont...

This watch is a chronograph. The true second hand is the one you mentioned that is currently running (what is called the subdial hand).

To use the chronograph hand,

1) Press the button at the 2:00 location to start timing.
2) Press the button at the 2:00 location to stop timing.
3) Press the button at the 4:00 position to reset the chronograph hand(s) to zero.

To reset the chronograph hands to zero, set the crown to either click position one (usually date setting) or two (usually time setting), and use each button to test which subdial hand it will zero out.

Usually it is the first crown click position, and pressing the 2:00 or 4:00 button to zero out.

Warning: Leaving the chronograph function running will drain your watch battery much faster than using the standard second hand, as it is a complication meant for the purpose of timing an activity or other event.

If this does not zero your watch, you must either send it back to Michele, or visit your nearest Certified Master Horologist to assess the issue, as the movement may have a defect.

Need a user manual for the time magazine free chronograph watch

I have NO ideal what kind of watch it is so I am giving general chronograph instructions. You will have to use as it applies to the watch you were given.

care.gif
These instructions are provided for users who are not familiar with using a mechanical/analog chronograph. The instructions may be applied to any chronograph that has a seconds counter, 30 minute counter, and hour counter.
Please refer to the instructions of the appropriate model to determine the location of each counter on the dial. Note: some of the features described here may not be available on your particular model. Again, refer to the specifications to see if they apply to your model.
Using the chronographe functions:
How to read the chronographe:
For a chronographe that has a center seconds register, a 30 minute register and an hour register. Example 1: If the hour register is between the 1 and 2, but closer to the 1, and the minute register is at 20, and the seconds register is at 35, then the elapsed time is 1 hour 20 minutes and 35 seconds. Example 2: If the hour register is between the 1 and 2, but closer to the 2, and the minute register is at 20, and the seconds register is at 35, then the elapsed time is 1 hour 50 minutes and 35 seconds.
How to read the tachymetre:
If you are driving and want to determine the speed of the car using your tachymetre, start your chronograph when you pass a mile marker, stop your chronographe when you pass the next mile marker. Look at the center seconds hand and read the number on the Tachymetre scale, this number will indicate the miles per hour that the vehicle is travelling.
How to read the pulsometer:
Some watches have a pulsometer instead of a tachymetre. Use it as follows: Start the chronographe and begin counting the pulse. When you have counted 30 beats, stop the chronographe. The number on the pulsometer scale will indicate the pulse rate per minute.
How to read the telemeter:
Some watches have a telemeter instead of a tachymetre or pulsometer. Here is an example of one use for a telemeter: Start the chronographe when you see lighting. Stop the chronographe when you hear the thunder. Read the center seconds hand on the Telemetric scale and the number will indicate the distance separating the observer from the place where the lighting struck. This can give you a good indication of how far off a storm might be.
The many uses of a chronographe:
A chronograph has many practical uses, from timing a plane flight, a car ride, or simply being curious. There are also some uses for the chronographe that may not be so obvious. For example, you can use the chronographe on your watch as a dual timezone indicator. This is done as follows: If it is currently 6 A.M. in your home location and it is 12 noon in London, start your chronograph at exactly 6 o'clock. The number of hours displayed on your chronographe hour register will then show you the current time in London. Of course, these are just some uses of a chronographe. There are hundreds of uses for chronographes.

Manuel for yacht timer 700 please. Best regards P.Hessner

Could not find a download for instructions on this watch, but I did manage to find some basic instructions for the Sector brand. I hope this helps as this is the best I can come up with.
Good luck.
Sector Chronograph Watch Instructions
  • Most chronograph watches have screw-down crowns for water resistance. You must unscrew the watch crown before you can make any changes to the watch time. After time is set screw the crown back in. To utilize the chronograph dials, use the buttons on the side of the watch. One button will be for the second timer. Press once for the second hand to start timing. Press again to stop it. Another button will be to reset the second hand timer back to zero. Sector Chronograph watches may have different dial functions (see link in References).
  • Sector Dual-Time Watch Instructions
  • Because Sector watches are known for their sports capabilities, the Dual-Time watches have screw-down crowns. For Dual-Time timepieces, unscrew the crown counterclockwise. Pull the crown to middle position to set the date. Pull the crown out to its fully extended position and rotate it to set the day of the week, hour and time. Press and hold in the crown and turn clockwise to seal the crown back in to the watch.
  • Sector Ana-Digi Watch Instructions
  • Sector Ana-Digi timepieces have analog hands plus digital timekeeping functionality. To set the time, unscrew the crown counterclockwise and then clockwise to the appropriate time. The digital functionalities are programmed by the buttons on the side of the case. Depending on the style of the Sector watch, you can set the digital time with one button, set the date display, 1/100 seconds chronograph timer, altimeter, thermometer and alarm functions.

How to set up time on TAG HEUER SLR CHRONOGRAPH ? what are the functions of the 2 boutons and 2 crowns ?

The crown at 3 o'clock is used to set the time and change modes. The crown at 9 o'clock is used to rotate the flange at the edge of the dial.
The A button at approximately 2 o'clock starts and stops the chronograph function. The B button at approximately 4 o'clock resets the chronograph.

Lap Timer: When the watch is displaying normal time, press the right side crown to switch to chrono mode (the hour hand will indicate CHRONO). This watch measures lap times, press A to start timing the first lap. Press A again to stop the first lap and automatically start timing the second lap (the hour hand will move to indicate you're on the second lap), and so on. You can measure up to 20 laps this way. When you're fininshed timing laps, press the right side crown to see the best lap time. To reset the lap timer, hold down B for 2 seconds. To switch out of chrono and see the normal time, just press the right side crown in.

Chronongraph: To time an interval that is not a lap, just follow the above instructions, but instead of pressing A to stop the first lap, press B and the watch will show the elapsed time to the nearest 1/100th of a second. Hold B to reset.

Crown at 9 o'clock: This crown rotates the inner flange at the edge of the dial and is used to measure total race time (i.e. the total of all the laps). Simply rotate the crown until the the little start trinagle on the flange is aligned with the minute hand. This way, the total elapsed time can be read at any time, similarly to how a rotating bezel works.

To set the time: Ensure the watch is not in CHRONO mode, if so, press the right side crown in. At this time pull the right side crown out until you feel a click. The position the second hand moves to indicates what is currently being set. If the second hand is at 9 o'clock, you are setting am hours, press A repeatedly to set am hours. Then press B and the second hand will move to 6 o'clock, pressing A repeatedly will set the minutes. So on for year (11 o'clock), month (12 o'clock), and day (1 o'clock).
