SOURCE: Diagonal lines on my screen(samsung 55" projection HDTV hcn553w)

Here's the link to the user manual; http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=us&CttFileID=32370&CDCttType=UM&ModelType=C&ModelName=HCN553W&VPath=UM/200310/20031002105141187_P55A_00054A_0410.pdf Check page 28 and 29 for convergence instructions. Give it a try to see if it makes any difference. Check page 27 for the "perfect focus" feature and see if that helps. Could you take a photo of the "diagonal lines" on the set and post it - might help? If you open a menu on the screen, does it also have the lines across, or is it clear as normal. Check page 64 for how to run the demo, and try that. Have you recently unplugged the set from the mains power supply, left it for at least 15 minutes (preferably two hours) then turned it back on? if not, try it and see if you get any change. Check page 38 for the usual video settings - play around with them and see if any significant change? Check page 39 and set the "automatic picture setting" to standard, if it isn't already, and something else if it is - see if you get a change. Check page 40 for the colour tone adjustment - probably won't change anything, but worth a play in case. Check the bottom of page 46 about channel fine tuning - reset at least a couple of channels to 00, see if that makes a difference (long shot). Does the screen itself need cleaning? recommended is just a clean dry cloth - basically have a good close look at the screen when it is both on and off, to see if there are any marks that might be causing the problem - in particular has it possibly been cleaned with a solvent or too aggressively cleaned in a diagonal direction? shine a light on it at a few angles to check, and look from a few different angles too. Check by moving or turning them on and off if any other electric or electronic items near your tv may be causing the effect - speakers perhaps. Move speakers to check. A way to check other items is to totally cut off the electric supply to the whole house for a couple of minutes, except one circuit into which you can plug the TV and a picture source. See if you get a perfect picture - if so, start switching circuits back on 1 by one until it changes. Hope this helps - I think a photo would help a lot :)

SOURCE: my samsung projection tv #pcl5415r don't want to perform perfect focus adjustments

perfect focus functions are based on service mode setup...or factory settings. if the alignment of these setting are loss then the unit wont perfect focus. does the unit have a complete loss of convergence. a complete loss of convergence indicate possible failure of convergence amps.

SOURCE: have blurry picture, more on the top right of

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and check power resistor for leakage, if values are not exact you have to replace them. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

The picture is blurry. does anyone have a solution to this or has anyone had a similar problem.

I have a blurry screen and the top of it the picture is curved a bit. I was told to adjust the focus knob but I don't know where that is in the back of the TV. I took off the back and couldn't find it. I also tried to adjust the manual convergence and the red would not adjust only the blue would align. Any suggestions.

Samsung Rear Projection Problem (not convergence)

The tv has 2 focus adjustments for each tube, mechanical and electrical.

1. Mechanical focus is set by looking at screen from back (through inspection plate on back of most samsungs) and rotating the lens assembly on CRT. loosen wing nut and turn lens assembly to go through focus and back to best position.

Put convergence pattern on screen and manually misadjust bottom red and green lines convergence so they can be seen through inspection hole.

With back cover of TV off you can usually reach your hand up beside the lens assembly to loosen the wing nut then rotate to adjust. Green is in the middle. The focus will be obvious when you rotate and look

When you are finished make sure the foam dust protector is not over any of the lens assemblies and the wing nut is tight.

2. Electrical focus - located at front of unit. the front grille/speaker cover is removed and maybe a cover over the front crt inspection hole.

In the inspection hole there is a black plastic "Focus/screen adjust Assembly" with 2 rows of 3 controls.

One row is focus and the other is screen. The middle controls are for green with R/B on either side. Usually the controls are labelled as "focus" and "screen". You want to adjust the focus controls, one for each color. Look for the focus or screen label imprinted in the plastic. Don't play with the screen settings.

With the same misadjusted convergence pattern you can see a red, blue and green line. Adjust green focus and watch green line for best focus. Do same for other 2.

Screen adjustments are very exact and delicate. The easiest way to deal with them is to turn color off in Customer adjust menu. Put any color tone adjustments in the middle (low, med, high, put at med).

You should have a b/w picture if there are no crt or other color related faults. If it is close to B/W leave screens alone.

If the pix is too green, then the green screen setting must be reduced a small amount. Do not play with these adjustments as most TV repairrers have a difficult time adjusting them.

If focus adjustments don't help then focus control or CRT may be defective. Needs expert to determine.

Samsung Projection HDTV BLURRY!

Each projection set has focus controls in back, usually they don't move or go out of focus unless someone moves it, but in your case if you open the back you will see a focus block with 6 knobs 3 are for screen,I would highly recommend that you don't move this. Look for the focus and you will have to set each with the one color. Cover the other two and adjust.
