Question about Boating

1 Answer

I have a SI-TEX black box receiver and I'd like to connect it to a Garmin GPS chartplotter. The SI-TEX black box receiver instructions at one point say:"If the GPS has a NMEA output (or NMEA REF) connect this to the supply negative. Do they mean the 12 volt supply negative, the Transmit B(-) or the Receive B(-)? It just isn't clear. What I would really like to know is which GPS wires should I connect the AIS red, blue, black and ground wire to. Could you help?

Yes, the NMEA- output (I think you lefy uot the "-" in your questoin), anyway, the NMEA - or NMEA negative or NMEA ref is hooked to battery supply ground.
Dont forget to program the Garmin to look for 48,000 baud data.

Download and install the latest software update for Garmin GPSMAP 430 :
http://www8.garmin.com/software/ChartplottersUpdatewithSDcard_20120213.exe

Installation Instructions:
Click on 'Download' and choose to save the file to your computer.
Choose a location where you can easily find the file, such as the 'My Documents' folder or 'C:\'.Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
Double-click on the downloaded file. This will automatically extract the files to C:\Garmin and run a program to transfer the software update to an SD card.
Power on the device and make sure all other connected devices are powered on as well.
Insert the card into the card slot of your primary device. Select 'Update Software' in the window that automatically displays. If you do not have a primary device with a card slot, please see your dealer.
After the update completes, the chartplotter containing the SD card and all NMEA 2000 sensors will have the latest software. Note: If you have additional chartplotters connected to NMEA 2000, you will have to independently update each chartplotter. After the update completes, insert the update card into each NMEA 2000 chartplotter.

Si Tex Neptune GPS Plotter

It souds like your GPS is bad. It is either a RV16 or a GPK10. If the GPS is about 1 inch in width then it is a RV16. If the GPS is about 3 inches in width then it is a GPK10. Both GPS units are available through SITEX. 727-576-5995 x139

Computer cable

I don't know the answer to this because I am looking for the same thing. This is the answer I got from Si-Tex: You are going to need a cable, cble-6pf-sit. This cable will plug into your GPS-90, on the other end is bare wires. You are going to wire this into the pc somehow. (somehow?)That's the part i'm interested in the most! I ordered the cable can find nothing that shows how to wire it. I assume that it's wired to a db9 serial connector but have no idea what the pinout connections are. If you find out please let me know.
