We have a Kenmore sewing machine Mocel 385.1764180 and the material will not move while sewing a straight stitch. My wife says it did this a couple of days ago and corrected itself by moving a couple of dials back and forth. Well, it did it again today and we cannot correct the problem. I feel it may be the feed dogs not raising far enough. How can I raise them?

Hi. Have you lowered the feed dogs for any reason?

On my machine, as janome, there is a feed dog lever behind the bobbin are, and a pressure foot adjust on the top of the machine. But idf you have touched those perhaps something is catch in them and thats why it keeps happening ??

Stitches not forming correctly

the material may not be thick enough to make a correct stich, you might try interfacing with the single layer of material & see if that helps

Trouble sewing lycra fabric using a zig zag stitch

You have the machine set for blind hem stitching. Change the stitch selector to stretch stitch, which is a single, in line stitching zig zag stitch.

My Kenmore sewing machine model number is 17630, & when I try to set the stitch length from a Straight Stitch setting to a Straight STRETCH Stitch setting, there isn't any difference. I have the length...

Take a look at the stitch length dial. If you turn that dial counter clockwise (to about 7 o'clock), it will set to stretch stitch. Then all of the stretch stitch features will work. When you want to go back to straight stitching, just move that dial back to what ever stitch length you wish.

My kenmore 385 won't feed fabric

Check to see what pattern is selected. Be sure it isn't the buttonhole.Select straight stitch.Move the stitch length setting to 4.Turn the handwheel and see if the feed dogs move forward. Press the reverse lever and see if they move backwards. Select straight stretch stitch and turn the wheel to see if the feed dogs move forward and backward.Check the presser foot release on top of the machine and make sure there is pressure on the foot.
Sometimes the reverse assembly on this machine stops working because it has the wrong type of grease on it and it turns into a hard gummy mess that won't let it work.

Sewing machine straight stitch is not straight

It sounds like it is making a blind stitch, does it look something like this? -----v-----v-----v-----v-----v If so it might be on the blind stitch setting instead of the straight stitch! ;-)
