Non responding mp3 zen vision

I have a vision M that was working fine then just quit. C

Brief Description of Problem: Player froze in middle of song Would not

respond or shut down. Reset

brings it back to main menu or to recovery mode menu - but cannot

navigate away from menus (no response when press controls) When attached

to my PC, I can play songs from zen. Updated firmware and reformated

player -- but when added new songs, again could play songs through PC --

but when I detached zen from PC, again same symptoms -- opens up main

menu, but cannot navigate from menu, or shut down

Additionally:

I have reformatted it and upgraded the firmware ? both by controlling it through the computer.

If I put the zen into recovery mode ? it will show the recovery menu, allow me to scroll through the 4 options, but not react when I try to choose any of the options.

When unattached from AC or computer it will only power up if I reboot it ? it then goes into the main menu from where I am unable to navigate from (i.e. its frozen at this menu)

The only way it will power off is by again rebooting ? which of course closes it and repowers it up again, or by letting it power off because of too much time spent in idle mode.

I can attach the zen to the computer with or without AC power ? the battery is strong enough to run it on its own ? the battery icon is completely green when it is on.

When not attached to the computer but attached to AC power it will power on correctly (i.e. using the power button ) ? but again not react to any attempts to navigate away from the main menu.

It MIGHT power off using the power button? or by rebooting it.

Late breaking news: as of today it will intermittently- maybe once every couple of tries -- will power on correctly (i.e. using the power button ) and will then power off using the power button..

But it still does not respond to menu navigation attempts.

I can listen to music stored on it by playing the songs through the computer either running the zen off of AC or battery ? so in essence I have a 30GB flash drive!

When you say you upgraded the firmware you have downloaded the firmware from creatives site?
if it was me i would take it apart and see if dirt or something is loose or not fully connected.
good luck

Zen vision 30 gb front buttons don't respond

Go to the Creative website and D-load the firmware renewal utility for your player. It should detect the player via USB automatically and find the firmware for it via the Internet connection. No buttons required.

My zen is freezeing

1. I'd try a system clean up first (instructions below)
2. definitely upgrade your firmware (http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/)
3. If all else fails, back up all your music on your PC and format it (instructions below)

.... from Creative's site

Reset, Format or Clean Up a Zen Vision:M If your player stops responding, you can reset it. To reset the player, push the end of a pin-like object (for example, a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole. This should not cause you to lose any data or audio tracks, unless you were in the middle of transferring an audio track.
To reset Zen Vision:M to factory default settings:
Press on the Menu/Back button on your player, and select System, and then Reset.
To Format or Clean Up Zen Vision:M
  1. Detach the Zen Vision:M player from your PC , and ensure that the unit is off. If the battery is too low, charge the battery fully before continuing
  2. Slide the Power switch towards the Power icon vision_m_reset.jpgand hold the switch in the Power On position.
  3. Push the end of a pin-like object (for example, a straightened paper clip) into the reset hole, press gently and remove. vision_m_reset1.jpg
  4. Release the Power switch when the Creative logo appears. The Recovery Mode appears:
    • Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the player's hard disk, it will not affect music files)
    • Format All (Formats the players hard disk - Note: all contents will be lost)
    • Reload Firmware (Reloads the Operating System on the Zen. Select this option ONLY if there is a firmware available to reload.)
    • Reboot (Reboots the device).
  5. Select Clean Up or Format from the Recovery Mode, and then select Reboot.
