Trying to get local channels through an external antenna I cant get the tv to switch from cable to air. Also, I never programed a parental control password. Is there a factory preset number? I wanted to put in a pass number of my own, but is says first to enter in the old number, which I don't have. Steve

How to use an antenna box for more channels

Once the antenna is mounted and connected to the TV then you can go into setup menu and do a channel search. You will be prompted to set it up as CABLE or AIR/ANTENNA. Select ANTENNA and it will program all available channels for you.

I'm trying to hook up a 19" Sansui tv. I'm not on cable, but tried hooking it up to an antenna without any luck. What do I need to do to get the TV to work???

Make sure the TV can receive digital over the air signals (it should have an ATSC tuner), that is it doesn't need a digital converter box. In the menu settings make sure the TV is set to antenna, not cable. You should be able to use the auto-scan (auto-program, etc.) from the menu to find and program the local channels.

Do I need a digital converter box & antenna to get

It really depends upon your TV. If your TV is newer and has an ATSC tuner in it, then no - you'll just need the antenna. However, if your TV is older and doesn't have an ATSC tuner, you'll need an external tuner, what you're calling digital convertor, and an antenna to get the local channels. Use Google or another search engine to find the specifications for your TV to see if it has an ATSC tuner. Or, connect an antenna to your TV, run the channel scan (off-air antenna mode) to see if you get any local channels. If you don't, you'll need the external tuner.

Goodmorning, bought a zenith tv didn't get the remote. Wonndering how i can programme it using just the buttons on the tv. How do i get the menus up. it only catches threes channels as of now.

Hello
There are two types Zenith TVs. One type will have "Menu" button on its front panel and other will not. If your Zenith is the first type, you can programme it without a remote control. If it is the second type, you must have a remote control hanset to programme it.
Programming method
First connect the TVs antenna socket at its back with external antenna or cable.

* With the remote control in hand, press the POWER key to
turn on the Presentation TV.
** Press MENU repeatedly until the Setup menu appears.

*** Using the Up/Down arrow on the remote control, highlight
Auto Program on the screen

**** Press the Right or Left arrow to go to the Auto Program
menu.

***** Using the Up/Down arrow, choose either Cable TV or Off-
Air Antenna on the screen.
****** Press the Right or Left arrow to begin the Channel Search.
******* Press ENTER when the channel search is done.

Note: Auto Program finds channels being received by the TV
tuner
Cable will not work unless you subscribe to a cable service
OK.

Does emerson model #20s5b have a switch to convert from cable to satilite?

It's in the channel programming menu. It should say, "Cable/Ant" or "Cable/Air" If you want a roof antenna with local channels, change it to "Air/Ant" Then click auto program with the antenna hooked to it to scan for free local channels.

In just bought new Toshiba regza 40" Lcd tv and auto tuned it, but the picture is terible , snowy and colours are not good, what to do...

Hello
First of all reset the TV. for that

press and hold the POWER button
on the TV control panel for 5 or more seconds to reset the TV.
Then connect the TV tt any source like outdoor areiel or cable box etc, select the appropriate input, and retune the TV. First of all, connect it to an external antenna, and set it to autotune.

You must configure the ANT/CABLE input source before

programming channels (-left-hand column).

If the ANT/CABLE input signal type is set to Cable, the

automatic channel programming process erases channels

that were previously programmed into the TV's memory.

If the ANT/CABLE input signal type is set to Antenna, the

automatic channel programming process adds newly found

channels to the existing set of programmed channels (and

does NOT erase channels that were previously

programmed into the TV's memory.) To remove an Antenna

source channel from the memory, you must manually delete

it.

To tune the TV to a channel not programmed in the channel

memory, you must use the Channel Number buttons on the

remote control.

Programming channels when the ANT/CABLE input is

configured for Cable will take substantially longer than when

the antenna input is configured for Antenna. This is normal;

however, once channel programming is finished, you should

not have to repeat the programming process again unless
your Cable TV service lineup changes significantly.
Find out the received channels are clear or not. If they are clear, your TV is perfect, and the input device you connects ot the TV is faulty. OK.

I have a jvc tv model av27530. Disconnected cable box b/c going

You probably have to find your original remote to the set and go through setup in your menu. On most sets, there will be a menu item which will allow you to switch from Cable mode to Air mode. If you have no Cable connected, then you must set tuner in Air mode.

If you are using an external device to run on channel three, then try this:
Make sure device (rather it's a vcr or game console), is hooked up to your Antenna Input connector. Also, some of these devices will have a small hidden switch on back that says 3 and 4. Move the switch to 3 position. Turn on device. Go into TV menu and do a Channel scan. This should auto program any device hooked up to the TV antenna input jack to channel three.

Keep in mind that you may not receive anything by Feburary of this year without an HD converter box to tune in channels with and outdoor antenna.

PROBLEM WITH GETTING LOCAL hd CHANNELS

You need to have a set top box.

By law, as of March 1, 2007, almost all televisions should include a built-in tuner (called HDTV, digital, or ATSC tuners) that can receive high-definition programs over the air by simply connecting an antenna. Your HDTV doesn't have such a tuner, you'll need to connect an external tuner (or cable or satellite box) to watch high-definition programming. External over-the-air HDTV tuners currently cost at least $150.
