Have had many of these in the shop, almost all have had a power supply problem, Capcitors blow and shut down the board. About half of these can be rpaired but the other half will need a new power supply

Depending which model, this tv may have an inverter master and slave module set. I find best to replace as a pair. These modules feed the flourescent lamps that backlight you lcd screen. more than likely the one failing is on the same side as the spot you are seeing. I always first look at the power supply panel, to be certain that capacitors on this board have not failed or leaked out.

There is not a good solution. If you read about the Polaroid 37" LCD HDTV, you have a problem and it's the same one that many of us have. According to Polaroid's service center, the control box needs to be replaced. Polaroid does not stand by this product. The company gives you a lot of lip service about how many they sell and how few problems they have - they're lying. The TV's should be recalled and I'd suggest you join many of us to demand it. Write BBB, write the company where you bought the TV, write any consumer group you can think of - Polaroid TV's are junk. Sorry you've got one. Sounded like a good deal and Polaroid used to manufacture quality - no more.
These Polaroid LCD sets all fail like this. Bad power
supplies. Call the warranty number and demand to have the main
module replaced even if it is out of warranty.
