We need model number of the laptop please mdw 500s i cannot find listed. If its the same as the nx 500s then ddr 333 is required (200 pin sodimm modules)
for wireless they installed
Intel® PRO/Wireless IEEE 802.11b/g network card, Mini-PCI Pentium® M models only)
-OR-
Broadcom IEEE 802.11b/g network card, Mini-PCI (Celeron™ M models only)

  • FN+F2 keyboard combination toggles wireless networking
  • Antenna: Uses factory-installed internal antenna assembly
  • Operating channels: 11 selectable channels
  • Security: 128 and 64 bit WEP encryption
  • Operating Frequency: 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
  • Maximum Data Rate:
    54 Mbps (IEEE802.11g)
    11 Mbps (IEEE802.11b)
I am not sure where you will find a mini PCi card to suit i would just use a slot in pcmcia card or usb adaptor

Ram speed-what does it do

Your PC support up to 4 gig of memory in 4 slots.
DDR 333/400 ram memory of 1 gig each.
So you need to know how much memory your system had.
Probably 2 gig.So the more memory the better will be the speed for run apps in your system.

Here are the specifications of the Gateway 838GM: You will have to replace the existing memory with thesesettings only: The machine comes with: 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB PC3200DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR Nowyou can only upgrade to 4.0 Gig total. I would recommend going to this link and order the correct memory foryour computer I use them quite a bit. http://www.memorystock.com/memory/Gateway838GM.html Rob

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Upgrading RAM on your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer is easy, Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer takes the PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR. RAM Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of RAM.
You can upgrade your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer to up to a maximum of 2.0 GB RAM, the Computer has 4 sockets to install RAM, already with 512 MB (removable) standard RAM installed. For best Computer performance use the maximum amount of allowed RAM per slot for your system.

Upgrading acer laptop RAM

Hi,
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.
