I recently moved and when I hooked all of it back up the CD drives light up the the green light where the lock symbol comes on and the power button stays yellow, then after a few seconds say 5-10 the green light where the lock symbol is goes out and when I press the power button nothing happens, any insight? Oh and on teh back the plastic trip was damaged so it may have been dropped not sure it is was by the moving company.

Open it up check all the connections memory and add in cards for security.
connect it and try again. Sometimes the bios battery can cause wierd problems, they are usually a 2032 battery on the motherboard. replace it if it's suspect. I would then look at the power supply. Big heavy capitors don't like being dropped, (neither do hard drives for that matter).

Testimonial: "Thanks for the help i will try the battery, I checked the cooling fan duct and it had come loose, I am now trying to check the CPU"

Dell 8200, xp. plug & play config error. can not bring up ms xp. disconnected everything except keyboard, mouse & monitor.

Plug and Play Error? Check and see what CD/DVD Device you have connected. An 8200 uses Either SATA Connectors or IDE (WIDE GRAY CABLE) to connect to the hard disk and the Optical Drives. You may also want to check the jumper settings on the CD/DVD Drives. You will see if it's been set to "Cable Select," which is AUTO for most Dell computers. Dell OptiPlex and Dimension computers can be tricky so try "Cable Select" first. If you have TWO cd/dvd Drives in the PC, you have to have one SET for "master," and the other one to NOT HAVE A JUMPER AT ALL. Dell computers just work weird that way.

Why does my dimension 8200 dell desktop say "strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility"

Rduy Cruz,
This error message references that your system Primary hard drive is not being Detected in the system. You can press F2 to enter the setup to see if the hard drive is even being seen. If not, exit out and shutdown the system. Unplug the power cable and open the computer to reseat the hard drive cables at the hard drive and at the motherboard connection. If that does not resolve the issue you may need to replace the hard drive IDE cable. If all this does not work you may need to replace the hard drive. Please post back if this does not resolve the issue.Below is a link to your online manual for your computer.

Dell Dimension 8200 PC Desktop Cd rom not reading disk

optical drive troubleshooting is pretty straight forward, fist see if you can boot to the drive using a bootable CD like the Windows CD or your Dell Resource CD, use the F12 1 time boot menu test it.
Also see if the drive is detected by model in the BIOS (F2 at boot) if not seen, reseat both power and data cables, boot to BIOS F2, turn on CAP LOCK SCROLL LOCK, NUMLOCK, then press ALT+E then ALT+F then ALT+B, this resets bios defaults and forces hardware re-detection. If you have no floppy diskette drive, you'll need to turn that back off in the BIOS before the ALT+B
If all that is done and the drive isn't seen/cannot boot to with bootable media, swap the data cable with the HDD and try a different power connection.
If Drive still not connected, replaced the drive.
If drive is detected and IDd then try this

Dell Dimension 8200 Desktop PC shuts off after it has been on for a long time. It shuts off like power has been removed from the CPU although I have an APC hooked up to it.

Sir you should check the power supply of your system. If its working properly then its because of the heat sink of your motherboard...Try to mother heat sink fans in the pc and your problem is solved......

I want to replace CD drive on Dell Dimension 8200. My options are serial ATA, parallel ATA & ATAPI. Which one do I need?

Hello,

This computer has 2 IDE connectors. These are parallel ATA connectors.

See: Dell Dimension 8200 Specs

If you get a drive, look for IDE on the package. IDE, PATA and ATAPI are near synonomous. They use a 40 pin flat ribbon cable to connect.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Restore factory settings

If after hit control F11 nothing happen, probably you don't have a restore partition. Check that first.

If not you need to reformat your drive by reinstalling windows (you DO have that cd) and then reinstall the additional software that came with your 8200 (all that stuff is downloadable from dell website)
