I just installed my new canon ip1300, and while trying to print it is giving me a message which says "service error 5100". restart the printer and try again, else refer to the manual.
Also the power lamp and the alarmm lamp are flashing alternately. According to the manual, after restarting the printer if this problem persists, contact the canon service rep.
Do I really need to call those guys?? Or can this problem be resolved?
i have just instal my new pixma ip1300 printer but when i try to print it does,nt print and service error 5100 shows on my screen .
May be the driver are not installed correctly ... just try reinstalling the drivers ... and make a check that you have inserted the ink cartilage or not ... if not insert it and then give try ... it may work ..

please help me,i have problem in my printer, wifi on printer can't search .... I too was given the generic "5100" error message just tonight.
ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your ink cartridge carriage that disables it from moving. It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire. You may try cleaning also the encoder strip with a moist tissue paper. Furthermore, you may also try cleaning CAREFULLY the contact points of the cartridge holder and the cartridge itself (those shiny bronze pins) with a moist lint-free cloth.
I have a canon ip 1300 produces an error(both LED's are alternately blinking one blink for the green led and 5 blink from the orange led) then it will produce an error 5600.
Use this: 1. Turn off printer 2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button 3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go 4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go. 5. Green lights will flash and stop blinking. 6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times. 7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more 8. Your printer should respond as normal.
I am also with the same problem of Canon IP1300, need to know how I can
solve this problem of the error 5100, as soon as I bought the product
and not used yet, for this mistake, I wonder if this problem is also
frequent in the canon machines? !
Error 5100 is either a logic board, or the code strip (if that is the problem) is another matter - It is the plastic strip that runs across the printer and through the head carriage, it is supported at each end (one end under spring tension). If it has become dislodged it will give this error, also if it has any ink, grease or other foreign matter on it, it will give errors. You can clean it with a cloth dampened with water but you need to exercise great care to avoid pulling it off its anchors. The other thing to do is clean the stainless steel bar that the carriage sli des on and lubricate it with a cloth moistened with 3-in-1 or light machine oil. If neither of these works then I guess it is repair shop or replacement time
