This link goes into how and why a motherboard fails. The consensus is that they don't fail on their own,it's the components or their installation on the board that causes the failure.

I have rebuilt this computer several times. from the ground up. now I get 3 long persistant beeps. according the computer home .com is a video problem? is this true? Thank, Jack

PC generates three long beeps (1 Second Cycle three times then 2.5 Secondds Pause) when there is Memory (RAM) Error. Try inserting DIMMs again. Make sure that the timings (Clock Speed) of DIMMs are compatible (matches) with your motherboard.

I have a presario 3017cl, when i turn it on the screen is black and it beeps constantly

Need to know the specific number of beeps to analyze this but all computers need three things to fire. Ram memory, CPU and video. Those are the root of most beep codes. Check your ram memory sticks and make sure they're fully inserted in motherboard. Make sure the video card is inserted properly if it's not an onboard video. If it's not one of these then you probably need to find a professional and it's a pretty good chance the motherboard may be bad.

Beebing tree times

Louise -

Although the memory may be working okay in another system, the three beeps at post still indicates a memory(RAM) problem. Your motherboard uses AMI BIOS, as indicated by the product specifications on the Asrock website; In the post-error code listing, three beeps is a memory issue.

Check and make sure you have compatible memory for the motherboard; and if possible, test with new or alternate memory sticks.

If new memory doesn't resolve the issue, I would say the RAM slot(s) is damaged, which would require totally replacing the motherboard.

Hope this helps!
