Question about Gateway Essential 400 PC Desktop

PC is LP Mini Tower TB3 Essential 450. PC is

PC is LP Mini Tower TB3 Essential 450. PC is locked with password and password is unknown. How can PC be unlocked ?

    PC scrolls thru BIOS then goes to screen with Gateway Logo. Request for password box opens and nothing else happens.

    OS is Windows 98

    OS is Windows 98. After turning on PC, it scrolls through BIOS and Gateway Logo appears. Immediately the Password box appears and I'm stuck there.

    Do you see a login screen for Windows? or is the password before the OS starts up?

Generally, there is a CMOS clear jumper on the motherboard to reset the BIOS defaults. Take a look at this page and see if this is your motherboard: http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/INTEL/4000532/400053201.shtml
If it looks like it is (you'll have to open the computer case to find out), then go to that website and click on the System configuration jumper link, which explains how to reset the password.

If the operating system is Windows XP or 2000, then restart the computer, press F8 before the loading screen (after BIOS) and select Safe Mode. Then login to the administrator's account. Click 'Start', and then 'Run'. Type "control userpasswords2" without quotes and press enter. Find your account on the list, click reset password, enter a new password, shutdown and switch back on.

HP Mini 5102 only boots to BIOS screen. Administrator password not working. Won't boot past this screen
I repair laptops for work and when I get a HP mini with a locked bios and unknown password then I use www.unlockbiosrecovery.com and for $20 they send me the master bios password for my specific laptop which clears any bios password set. It has saved me so much time and money!! They do most laptop brands and models. They can also clear hard drive passwords on laptops.

My job gave me a tower but has a password so I can not get pass.
I assume you don't want to do a fresh install of the operating system.

Have you tried just leaving it blank and pushing ENTER when the password box comes up ?

restart the pc and before windows starts up press the f-8 key to bring up the start-up option screen. select safe mode. log on to any of the listed accounts as each is an administrator account.
note: if you did not set an administrator password for the pc when installing windows, you may be able to click anywhere on the desktop screen and the administrator account will display. you select that account and hit enter without using a password.
