THIS IS "DC OFFSET". MOST AMPLIFIER PROTECTION CIRCUITS REACT TO THIS CONDITION BY SHUTTING THE AMPLIFIER DOWN. THIS IS A CONDITION, NORMALLY BROUGHT ON BY SHORTED OUTPUT TRANSISTORS, THAT ARE TRYING TO PASS THE POWER SUPPLY DC CURRENT TO THE SPEAKERS, WHICH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, WOULD BURN THE VOICE-COILS IN THE SPEAKERS. MOST TIMES THIS WOULD BE CHARACTERIZED AS HOOKING THE SPEAKERS UP AND OBSERVING THEM SIMPLY POKING OUT OR IN CONSTANTLY WHICH CREATES MUCH EXCESS HEAT. THIS IS WHY THE AMPLIFIER WILL SHUT DOWN TO PROTECT THE SPEAKERS. YOU CAN TRY TO DISCONNECT THE SPEAKERS AND THE RCA INPUTS THEN POWER THE AMPLIFIER UP. IF THE DC OFFSET LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATES, THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE THIS UNIT REPAIRED. ONCE REPAIRED, BEFORE REINSTALLING IT, MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR SPEAKERS FOR DAMAGED VOICE-COILS, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF FAILURE. OK. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE....V

I got power and it hits but then after a bit it stops and red offset light comes on? whats that mean

The amp is overheating it doesn't have a built in fan. This will be more occasional in the summer months. The best solution is to build a box and buy a few computer fans, install a fuse link run the positive of the fans to a remote wire and ground the fans to the chassis of your vehicle. You need a way to recirculate the air inside your amp. I've decided to remove the bottom plate of the amp, mount the amp on a board. Cut holes out of the board and have one fan flipped to pull hot air from the amp and two fans to push the air away from the amp.
You can buy the Antec and Rocket Fish fans for under $15 from Best Buy.

Settings for a Sony Xplod 1200 watt amp, with two 12 inch subs

What kind of subs are you running? Meaning what brand, what are the ohm, spl and wattage? I'll look up your amp while you get that info to me. Looking forward to helping you:) Thanks!

Sony Xplod Amp

well you might want to try using 30 amp atc fuses instead of 10 amp fuses on your amp, because you are getting an overcurrent from your alternator then from your battery. I have the same amp and you will find that your subbs will hit better too. also check on your ground wire from your amp as this also will cause the RED light to come on. :)

I have a problem with my amp

Are they all green? If so, that's normal. They go red (or maybe amber?) when the protection circuit detects a problem.
