The XSi has Live view on it but only in non-auto modes, just press the set button to activate it and the start button to focus. Also make sure it is turned on it the menu.

Yes. If you want to see what you're going to shoot on the screen, you need to get a camera with "live view".

The screen wont come up so i can see what im taking a picture of how can i fix this?

If you can see the menus and review pictures you've already taken then there's apparently nothing to fix. You have to use the viewfinder to compose your pictures, not the LCD on the back. The live view capability to use the LCD was introduced with later models.

Picture is not showing on screen until after I take the picture

The D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, showing the view only through the viewfinder. The LCD is for menus, setup, and reviewing pictures you've already taken. The LiveView capability that allows you to use the LCD for composing your pictures is a relatively new feature. Nikon introduced it into their cameras with the D3 and D300, released well after the D40.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way this camera works.

Hi dear, you need to see the manual (http://www.retrevo.com/support/FujiFilm-S700-Digital-Cameras-manual/id/2488ag805/t/2/)
Some camera only use viewfinder to shoot photo,The LCD is for setup and display photo only.Because it's off it will save a lot of battery power so that you can shoot more photos.Check it out in the manual.Have FUN!

Similar problems as other readers. camera turns on but no real time image on LCD screen. LCD contiues to show settings i.e. full auto mode etc. But I can view pictures already taken. Thanks

The XTi and prior EOS models have not capability to see the live image to be shoot on the screen. Only the image after taken can see on the screen. Other images also using the view mode.

If you can't review the images, eve if the display is turned off, just after they are taken, maybe the "Review time" is set to "off". Go to settings, 3th tab, Review time and set the desired setting.

EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera
EOS 400D/Rebel XTi doesn't have live view function, so you cannot see the picture you are taking.

Out of focus

There might be a dioptic adjust dial for the viewfinder. Check your manual and if so, look at menu while adjusting until the text is the clearest.

New Camera, no picture on screen

This is normal for this camera. Think about it. The CMOS chip can't see through the mirror. After the shot is taken the electronic shutter exposes the CMOS chip and makes an image just like exposing film on a film type camera. Once you get used to it you may like it better. In outdoor or bright light situations it's difficult to view the LCD screen to frame the shot anyway.

LCD Screen does not work properly

Your camera works just like a film camera SLR,. You use the eyepiece to frame and focus your picture. The LCD screen is for reviewing pictures taken or menu operations. You cannot preview a shot on screen before it is taken with the camera.
