The eyepiece end is the end pointed UP.

Remove the lens cap on the top.

Why is the view on my Astro-Nova 102 telescope upside down?

All astronomy telescopes show the image upside down. Using a erect prism eyepiece fixes this but is not for astronomy, only terrestrial views because of light loss

Two years ago my son got the astro-nova 102 mm for Xmas. Since then we have not been able to see anything on it, Everything looks dark. Tried to return it to toys r us but since we did not have the receipt...

First NEVER buy another telescope from Toys R Us ------- we get the most complaints on this telescope brand.

Two suggestions-

1. Find a nearby Astronomy club and have the members help you with the scope.

2. This is what is called a REFLECTOR style telescope. Many beginners setup this telescope BACKWARDS. The large mirror is on the bottom of the scope-- and the eyepiece and focuser is on the UP end of the scope near the front on the side of the tube. Like this picture-
http://www.myfirstscope.com/reflector.html

3. Take the scope outside during the day time -- put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT USE the 2x barlow if you have one. Practice focusing on a distant object.

I can find objects in the finderscope but when I look through the eyepiece of the main telescope it's all black. There is absolutely no light coming through the main eye. I have tried everything. I have...

On a reflector the end with the focuser is the UP end the mirror is on the bottom. During the daytime point the scope at a distant object with the above eyepiece in place and practice focusing. Also line up the finderscope with the main telescope tube.

After correctly assembling an astro-nova telescope, I cannot see anything through the eyepeice, though i have my target squarely in the cross hairs of the finderscope. Yes, I did take the lens cap off!...

Did you adjust the finder scope to line it up accurately with the main scope? They don't come that way from new.

For any of these telescopes the manual advises that you do this in the daytime, training the scope on an object on the horizon (never point it towards the sun!). Use the lowest power eyepiece you have (the one with the highest number). Once you have a tree or mountain peak in the center of the main scopes image, you can then adjust the screws around the finder scope to get the crosshairs centered on the same object. It is very difficult to do this job in the dark, especially as objects in the sky are constantly on the move.

New telescope users are taken by surprise at the difficulty of just pointing the telescope in the right direction to see anything. The field of view is quite limited, especially if you are using a high power eyepiece. The higher the power of eyepiece on a telescope, the dimmer the image, the more difficult to aim it at any chosen object, and the more difficult to focus. When the scope is not focussed, even if there are stars in the field of view, they will only be faint blurs.

Just looking at the astro gazer 70 and astro nova 100 as first telescope for my 6 yr old. both have a 6 x 25mm finderscopes and the only difference i see is the 100 has four eyepieces (4.5mm, 9mm, 12.5mm,...

DO NOT buy an Edu Science telescope. We receive many complains on these scopes.

Try this web site for a nice small Dobsonian style telescope, like this one.

I bought a 102mm Astro-Nova Telescope. Why cant I see anything?

Why did you buy a telescope being sold by TOYS R US!

We get more complaints on this scope than any other brand.

Read the negative reviews here:

Next time buy from a regular telescope retailer like this one:

Received 102mm astro-nova telescope for xmas. How do you use it? Came with no instructions. Not sure which end to point at the object to be viewed. Removing what looks like a lens cap does nothing.

The eyepiece is on the FRONT end of the telescope which is pointed UP.

The mirror is in the bottom.

Remove the lens cap and put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object. The image will be upside down but this is not a problem. NO up or down in outer space!

Can't see out of eye piece

This is a reflector style telescope. The MIRROR is in the base! Light enters the front near the focuser and goes down the tube and bounces off the mirror and back to the front and through the eyepiece. The EYEPIECE end is pointed up.

Your scope TUBE should look like the reflector telescope on this web page:

http://www.amazon.com/Edu-Science-Astro-Nova-102-Telescope/dp/B001NLOQN2

Wish you had NOT bought this telescope. For about the same price you could have bought this:
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=classicdobs/~pcategory=dobsonians/~product_id=08942

The scope above has a 6 inch mirror which is almost twice the size of the scope you bought.

SO......102MM ASTRO-NOVA TELESCOPE.SHOULD I OPEN THE BACK[BLACK PLASTIC] OR THE FRONT[METALLLIC WHITE]? THANKS..

The front is the part where the eyepiece and the focuser happens to be. That is called a REFLECTOR style telescope. Light enters the front of the tube and bounces off the mirror in the bottom of the tube. There returns and bounces off the small secondary tilted mirror out into the focuser and eyepiece. There should be an easy to remove dust cap on the front end near the focuser. That end is pointed toward the sky.

These types of scopes should be checked for collimation to determine if the optics are all lined up.

Watch this video:

Try to find a local Astronomy club and get them to help you with the telescope.

Why can i only see black through my astro-nova telescope

this seems to be a common problem on this scope usually solved by taking it back for a refund.

Assuming you don't have a cap on the tube ;-] then it will either be a lens or mirror not in alignment or the eyepiece is not mounted correctly.
I would take the eyepiece out and carefully put it back in. If that doesn't help then take it back to the store.
