Just purchased a ACER X223W LCD Monitor yesterday. It's 22" and a real change from my previous l7". The Problem is the white background is so sharp and harsh it almost hurts my eyes. Also some of the print looks like it's fading. (note the punctuation marks in this note) Checked the manual, tried the adjustments and still not happy.
Any help would really be appreciated. Please keep this simply Iam most certainly not a technical wiz.
Many thanks

Try setting the font smoothing to Clear Type.
I have a 17" and would love to know if you guys fixed this problem... I can't believe how faded the whites, grays, everything looks. I have adjusted everything on this stupid screen as well as in my desktop & display settings. I am starting to believe that it's just a cheap piece of schit...
Anybody figure out a way to fix it, other than by unplugging it?
Ok try to adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor? You can see it infront of the monitor in the front panel. If not work PM me ok?

Hi, I have the same problem with and otherwise superb monitor. I have cranked the contrast down to 16 and the brightness to 25 but it is still a bit on the harsh side. Could there be an internal pre-set which I can tweak once the guarantee is expired?
HI,
Not sure if my post got through. I have had the same problem and have cranked the contrast and brightness levels well down but still quite harsh whites. Is there an internal preset which can be tweaked once the guarantee has expired?
I have exactly the same problem as Bubberscat with my new X223W monitor: harsh, bright, white background and dim, fading text. My wallpaper (a landscape digital photo that I took) also looks completely "washed out." I can't complain about the price ($160) but I suppose you get what you pay for. Also, the monitor adjustments (navigating the menu and making changes) are extremely counter-intuitive.
