My APEX AD1118 DVD player freezes over and over while playing DVD's for no apparent reason.My DVD's are not scratched and I make sure that they and the laser light inside the DVD player are clean. My player is just a few months old and this problem occurs even with new DVD's (movies) that have never been played before. Please help! R.C.

Try cleaning the lasers lens with an anti static cleaning wipe. I used " nice'n clean" that I had purchased from Walmart to clean my laptop screen. My dvd player started back playing after gently wiping the laser lens.

CD and dvd disc cleaners will not solve the problem, a deeper and delicate cleaning procedure by cleaning the lens manually with an cotton swab is needed...
Although the quality of newer discs is to be discussed.

Try running a dvd cleaner through it first, before trying anything else (the type that looks like a DVD with a brush underneath).

The regular DVD might have been a fluke (scratches, rental?, burned dvd?)

Was there anything special about the new Blu-Ray Disc - what was the tile? On certain titles, you may need the firmware upgrade found at:

Is the player new? If it's a new DVD player and still under warranty, I would return it, exchange it or possibly, consider changing brands: perhaps to a Phillips brand DVD player. After all, the Phillips corporation guarantees its DVD players will play everything, just read the box in which the player's packaged - it's the best bang for your buck. With DVD players being so inexpensive these days, the best option is to buy new. Keep computing Chomskyites.

Does it happen for all dvd disc or some particular dvd disc. If it is with some particular disc then clean the dvd and try them. If the problem exist for all the dvd then try to clean the lens by dvd lens cleaner and try to play. dvd lens cleaner will be available in dvd stores.
