My compaq laptop says i cant change the region

You have probably used up all your region changes. These are limited for copyright reasons.
Download Anydvd from Slysoft.com
This will run your dvds as "region free"
Burn them with Dvdshrink

You are getting a region code error. You should return the DVD and get one that is formatted for your region.
You can change the region code on your DVD player, but I advise against doing that. You are limited by built-in piracy protection to changing your region code only three times, and then your DVD player will be permanently disabled.
An alternative is to download "DVD Shrink" to your PC (if you have a DVD burner in your PC) and it will convert most DVD's to "region 0" which will work everywhere. The trade-off is some loss of quality. DVD Shrink is available for free and you can google to find a website that has it.

Region Code is a software embedded within your system. I have never heard of a dvd/drive for a computer using codes, only heard it on dvd players, because the manufacture use it to control movie distrubution in case of illegal copying from another region.. Probraly because it's compaq who has embedded this in there software to help with copyright issues.. You might be able to reflash the code embedded within your computer system dvd-drive. Try downloading http://www.cccp-project.net/, and download the codec, it's able to play avi, svcd, mkv and is region free or you can download this software calll riodvd region free player at download.com which causes some money because you are purchasing their software.

if your useing vista press the start button go into control panel select classic view ,then select device manager, find your dvd player click on it select dvd region pick the one you want but you can only change it a limited number of times

Try changing the region by right clicking your DVD drive in explorer and select properties, go to hardware tab, select your DVD brand and type, click properties, go to DVD region, and change the region.. Just remember, any DVD only allowed to change the region for about 4 times, after that, you can't change the region anymore..

To change the Region code on your player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVD from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software that allows you to play DVDs from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free from ;-

you can only change region 4 times per unit have you changed it befor? I know regin 7 is the united states.try going to the optiarc web site, I have the same dvd player recorder and have had prob. with codiacs but have fixed them.

the dvd region of your dvd drive does not match with the region code of some of the dvd drive, you can change the region code five times, but its better download the software like region code breaker, then play dvd's.
