Refrigerators:
s it ok to lay a refrigerator on its side? we are remodeling and my husband put our brand new refrigerator on its side.
The Manufacture will not recoment it. The reason is that the oil in the compressor will start to flow in the seal systems lines and could cause a clog.
The best think you can do at this point is stand the refrigerator back up and don't plug it in for 48 hrs to give it time to let the oils go back into the compressor.
We only transport a refrigerator on its side if we have no other choice, and we inspect the way the lines come out of the compressor to determin what side we are going to lay the refrigerator on so we keep the oil from creating a resriction in the line.
Good day,
Not wise, but if it's already done, then make sure it's righted and left off for minimum of 12 hours.
What happens is the oil in the compressor has run out of it's sump, and up into the coils in the machine.
Drainage time back to the compressor is very slow.
It's like leaving a car on it's side, for an extended period of time. Not good.
If issues show up, I wouldn't bring it up if you need to call for a warranty repair.
