The picture on the screen of our portable DVD looks broken
The picture on the screen of our portable DVD looks like it's cracked. The screen is fine just the picture is half white with almost a spiderweb effect in the center. Is it garbage or fixable?

Portable DVD players are fairly inexpensive. You should be better off buying a new one than having this one repaired, after you figure in parts and labor.

You could always try to replace the screen by trying to find one on eBay or some other used market that is broken, but has a good screen. Then simply swap screens.
Sounds like the LCD is leaking liquid crystal.
If you contact the manufacturer you may be able to replace the screen.
Best bet is to obtain the service manual first to see what is required for the task and see the stock order codes.
I usually prefer to fix things but here unless this is a very expensive unit let it go, it did enough damage to cause image issues and a screen hinge broken, if it can be repaired it will always be prone to some collateral issues that may show up later, like a small car in a accident, no matter how good the repair place is it will never be quite the same.
The back light of the monitor might be defective. or the drive signal might not be getting to the screen you will need a schematic, multimeter, and an oscilloscope to troubleshoot this issue.
This is how you will have to go about this using the schematic locate the screen test points measure the voltages with the multimeter and look at the signals with the oscilloscope. this will lead to you finding the exact problem.
