This can be due to bad solder connections, old/bad capacitors, defective convergence amplifiers, or other bad component. If you are not comfortable with electronics soldering and high voltage, I recommend a service shop. 350 to 450 bucks average repair. This is not a do it yourself for the average person.

I have this same problem with the PT51HX41E but in the convergence menu the green and red are allowed to move. but the blue on the right side of the screen is not allowed to move and it looks like its...

My first guess would be a bad convergence amplifier - this is common, although usually all three of the amplifiers in the integrated circuit die at the same time, which throws off at least two colors and creates a "bow-tie" effect. I surmise you have half of a bow-tie in blue only.

If you could look at the blue output waveforms with an oscilloscope, you would see right away if this is the problem (flat-line instead of sawtooth wave). It is possible that both of the blue convergence amplifiers are working, but one output is not getting to the blue deflection yoke.

Don't mess with the convergence anymore until you get this taken care of. Changing the convergence now will only make it harder to get it back to where it should be once the circuit is fixed.

MITS WS-65869 The green CRT is creating a warped image.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

Pt-47wx49e convergence problem

I just replaced the 2 convergance chips, but it did not seem to fix the problem. I then tested all the resistors that feed the convergence chips anf there was a 2.2 ohm fusable blown. IT was R7050 on mine. That seemed to fix it so that I could adjust all the colors through the convergence 2 screen. There seems to be a slight bow near the bottom when you look at the c2 screen, but not noticable when you are watching a picture. Since I got this broken, I am not sure how perfect it should be.

If anyone can send me the service manual, I would appretiate it. Thanks.

Philips 46-inch Rear Projection with bowed image?? slight distortion

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit inlcludes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its an easy fix.

Distorted picture

You need to re-solder the circuit board that contains the STK convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when doing tests. Best of luck, hope ya fix it.
