Samsung 40" tv not coming on

with the fault worsening slowly it points to failing capacitors on the power supply Board which is not uncommon for this brand, there are many repair kits available for this brands power supply boards if you feel you are capable of fitting them try Here:

This problems the FBT-the Flyback Transformer have cold solders.Must resolders the FBT.The right side wall of the FBT-the "H" horizontal transistor,must be also resolder too.

this problem started on my LN-S4051D a couple of years ago. eventually the sound stopped working altogether. I then started using my surround sound speakers for the TV via optical out but soon that stopped working as well. I recently took the TV to a repair shop who said that the main board is bad and needs to be replaced. Labor plus parts was going to cost me $400. I said no thanks and paid for the estimate. The picture size may have been changed on the remote. Try the button that says pic size or something close to that. It must have been switched to a mode which zooms in the picture. That should fix it.

Probably a bad main board or T-CON board or both. If you're trying to fix yourself, try disconnecting the cable (LDVS) from the small board (T-CON) at top center of the LCD panel and see if it still cycles. Note, be very careful with that cable, it is very delicate. If it still is cycling off and on, then it is probably the main board. A slight chance it may be the power board also.

If your TV is not an LCD type, It is a CRT type try to change it CRT socket.

A few weeks ago my set started flashing to a black screen. Now a couple of weeks later, i have no picture, but the set turns on and i have sound. The standby light is flashing. I purchased the set in 2000 so it is seven years old. This is the first problem. Could it be all three of the bulbs? Could it be all three of the bulbs? no as you say that sound is ok that means your power supply &high voltage section is ok. please check chroma ic luminance section or system control section stand by ckt ihanks
