I have a 2005, 42" toshiba LCD model 42DPC85 that when we turn it on everything is good except the whole screen is black but imediatly the colors dot by dot start making the black disappear, it only took...

You need a new DLP chip. The chip has little mirrors that are black on one side and white on the other side. When the chip wears out , your screen will turn white one dot at a time or black one dot at a time or they may just all stick shut at once. Since your screen is black, all your mirrors are closed. You can buy the chip from shopjimmy.com and they have a video of how to replace the chip so you can do it yourself. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. The chip is about $160. To have this service done for you is about $200. Do it yourself and save the money. Your tv will be just like new again. Just make sure the chip is in perfectly level or when you turn your tv back on, your picture will be slanted. you won't notice it on the picture itself but words on the screen or scrolling messages and the menu will be slanted.

If you are connected to an HD cable box or satellite box via component cables, make sure they are firmly seated at each end.

I have a friend whose Emerson Flat Panel LCD television works fine except when you hook up a DVD Player to the television set it only shows the movies in black and white. For some reason I can not get it...

How do hook it up? Are you using composite video (Yellow video cable) from DVD Yellow RCA video out to the TV AV1 composite video Yellow RCA jack and RED and WHITE cables for sound. Or you are using component video hook up using RED, BLUE, and GREEN Video cables and the RED and WHITE cables for sound. Please post back and tell us how you have it set up. You just have to match the color of jacks and plugs, unless there is problem in the TV.

this appears to be an LCD if the model is right. If so then i hope u have extended warranty because what you have is a bad screen. something has caused the layers to separate, either a cleaning solution you used of just a plain unlucky. but to get rid of it replace the LCD Panel which is not cheap. Good luck. PS dont use any kind of cleaning solution it ruins the screens
