How do i troubleshoot my kenmore model 110 electric dryer. it does not heat while it tumbles. How do I know for sure that it is the heating element.

Do all again

Could be the sensors on the side of the heat element sleeve or the heat element itself. You will need to unplug the unit and remove the back of the unit. The heat section is in the bottom left. There is a large tube hooked to it and you have to remove that first. You might then be able to get the wires of your volt meter in and check for continuity on both sensors and the heat element itself. The heat element wires come out toward the front of the sleeve. You will have to lay on the floor to do this so now is a good time to mop under the dryer. Or take it into the garage and remove the case and make it real easy. I am assuming that you have already checked to make sure the vent is clear? Just for giggles try running it without the vent hooked to the wall first and see if it heats up then. If not then go forward with the other things I said.

Replace the heating element

The element is supposed to cycle on and off thru out the drying cycle as not to burn clothes. Is it just taking too long to dry. If it is your exhaust from the wall behind the dryer to the outside is clogged somehow. I like to use a leaf blower stuck inside the exhaust behind the dryer and blow the whole line out to the outside of the home.

Each gas dryer has an electric element that heats up to ignight the gas in a small combustion chamber. for safety reasons the gas will not come on if the element is malfunctioning. After unplugging the electricity from the dryer you can get in and unplug the little element. if you can see that it is broken just replace it. if it doesn't look broken it most likely is broken but not percieved by a visual inspection. put an ohm meter on the terminals to the element and if it reads infinity the element is bad. replace the element and she should fire right up. literally.
Presto.
If the element is not the problem then it may be a wiring issue. if it looks like there has been a small lint fire in the dryer you probably have bigger issues than no heat.

Several reasonings. Step One make certain that you have 220 volts coming to your outlet. It takes 110 for the motor, and it takes 110 for the heating elements. If you have a volt meter that would be the best way to do that. Take the red and stick it in to the long part, and the black lead to the ground. Fuse houses was bad about this. Step Two it could be the elements are kicking off too soon. That is usually a sign of almost blown element. Step Three the heat sensor for the element prematurely kicking off the element.

Probably your heating element.

It's almost certainly the heating element, unless you have moved to a home without natural gas from one that did. Then of course, it won't have a source of energy. How can you not know if it's gas or electric?????

i am sending you all the possibilities for your problem, check either of these causes ----and than let me know if it is solved----

Power from the house
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.


Heating element
Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.


Thermal fuse
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)


Wiring
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.
