I received an I-HD901 surround system. How do I hook it up directly to my Sony tv and do I need to buy a receiver or an amplifier?

The I-HD901 didn't come with a DVD player.

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2010

I realize this is very easy for you but, it isn't for me. I'm confused about the dvd player. Is this step optional or does the system have to be hooked up to a dvd? This particular tv I'm trying to set the system up to does not have a dvd hooked up to it. Please advise.

You posted this in the wrong section. You don't have a Sony dav-s300.
This is for the iCinema i-HD901. This has no video input. You need a surround receiver. Get a 5.1 surround sound reciever, then you plug the video/audio into the reciever, then plug the video output of the reciever into your tv, then there should be 6 outputs for your speakers to connect. Here is are some helpful links.http://icinemasurround.com/PDF/iHD-901-Specification.pdf

I should add, this is only a 5.1 speaker system. Not a home theater system that includes a dvd player, etc... With this speaker system, you also need a surround receiver plus a dvd/bluray player of your choice.

Hook mz506 surround sound to my Samsung tv

Typically surround sound is run through a receiver or stereo. The sound from the tv is carried to the receiver by cables (hdmi or Audio-Video connected to input area of receiver). Then the speakers are connected to the output area of the receiver.
If you are not using a receiver, then the speakers must be able to connect directly to the tv and you have to see what kind of cabling your tv supports.

Need to know how to hook tv up to prewired home surround system. connections on wall, seakers inceiling

Run the audio output from the tv rca audio output, to any input of receiver and hook your speakers to receiver. You cannot hook up speakers to tv cause its a low level audio output. Needs to be amplified.

PS3 surround sound

You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.

We have a Sony Trinitron and a Sony STR-K670P. We use to have it hooked up to a DVR, but now we went down to basic cable. I can't seem to get sound to come through my surround system. Any advise out there?...

if your trying to use the dvr still your probably not connecting it all properly. make sure that. having a sony trinitron you have alot of connections on the back. if you connect all of the accessories that you have on your tv directly into each input and use the tvs main output connection to connect straight to your surround sound. this should fix your problem. plus you wont have a bunch of stuff hooked up to your surround sound receiver

No play back from HDTV to threater system

Do you have set-top-box or antenna-cable directly to TV?
You have connected TV with received via HDMI, but that won't work in this direction - TV has HDMI INput only, not output.
You can use HDMI to connect HDMI-out on DVD player for example to HDMI-in on receiver and HDMI-out of receiver to HDMI-in on TV.
But to get sound from TV to the receiver, use spdif optical or coax cable if TV supports that - this way you will get surround sound.
But also your connection via analog white/red RCA plugs should work, but only for stereo sound.

Getting Surround to work

The easiest way is to hook up your DVD/VCR combo directly to the back of your Sharp LCD TV, then run a component audio output from the TV to the audio input in the back of the receiver. Make sure you hook up your front, center and rear speakers correctly to the receiver, then go through with the speaker calibration steps - per manual, then it should work with no problem. Good luck!

Lost instructions

The 'Subwoofer' output on your receiver is used to connect to a powered subwoofer with a built in amplifier. Your KLH speakers use what is called a 'passive' subwoofer, it gets its power from the receiver and then passes the higher frequencies to the left and right front speakers after taking out the low frequencies for the subwoofer. A speaker system with a passive subwoofer is good for casual listening, but a powered subwoofer is required for really hearing low frequencies and rumble in movies. The KLH speakers you have were highly rated in their time for their price. The four satellite speakers and center channel speaker have very good sound compared to the little 'midget' surround sound speakers most people buy today.

Here's how you hook them up:

- The left and right front channels from your receiver terminals should go to the terminals on the subwoofer marked 'From Amplifier'
- Your left and right front speakers are then connected to the subwoofer terminals marked 'To Speakers', they do not connect directly to your receiver.
- Your center speaker is connected to your receiver terminals marked 'Center'
- Your rear speakers are connected to your receiver terminals marked 'Surround'

That should get you up and running. If the bass isn't good enough with the passive subwoofer, you can get a decent powered subwoofer like the Velodyne VX-10 for about $150 and 'kick it up a notch'. Good luck and enjoy....

Hooking up a sony playstation 3 with digital optical cable

Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.
