New Aspire with windows 7 is very slow

I got a new computer for christmas. I noticed that it was slow installing games and opening programs. My old windows 08 is lightning fast compared to this. It was fast running the programs though. But when i got itunes i tried to import songs from a cd and it took 10 minutes for one song. I also noticed that in the task manager it says cpu usage is 100 while doing nothing. I compared this to a windows XP computer and noticed the CPU usage was usually at zero but would spike up to arround 30. Is this a problem with the computer or is windows 7 just slow??

I disabled some of the start up programs and that seemed to help a little bit.

It may have a virus or just a bad windows install.
Try using your restore disk or option to bring back to factory.

Yes, removing start up programs can help, but if this is a new machine then the problem is not running programs. Your machine should be very fast out of the box. It is not unheard of to have a new install of Windows that just isn't running right. go and restore the machine with your restore disks. If it still doesn't run fast do it again. If that doesn't work bring it back and try another one while in the store if it is slow also get your money back.

Acer aspire 5745G I7 running extremely slow even after reloading the operating system?? Where is "speed step" in BIOS?

My first concern with this would be the hard drive. In my experience, if an OS has been re-installed and the speed issues remain then this is the most common problem. If you have another 2.5" hard drive then try swapping it and installing a new OS on this. If it works then you have your problem.

Game slowing down at random times

  • Many users while playing a game on there computer seem to notice that it slows down at random times throughout game-play, This common on most computer as users seem to forget about other applications running on there computer.
  • If your CPU is not fast enough and you are running many applications while your game is running you will notice the game isn't responding as fast as it should, The best way to solve this is disable all programs which you are not using including MSN messenger and any browser or File sharing/Torrent Application.
  • Also make sure your anti-virus is configured not to scan automatically otherwise it may start scanning while you are in game and cause dramatic lag, Most anti-virus's will provide an gamers profile which you can activate to prevent certain anti-virus features while you are playing your game.

My pc is very slow. if i will open my pc sometimes it will hang up....is it possible that i will reformat my pc?what OS should i install? can i install windows 7?

It's slow because it has been corrupted by a virus. So yes, you must reinstall it.
Yes, you can put Win7 on it, but if you're using the pc just for home use, no gaming , no special programs, it will be better to install a Linux on it - not only it's free but it's practically impossible to infect or hack.

My old computer with a Borland dBase 5.0 program on it crashed but the hard drive was salvaged and I have hooked it up to my new computer. However, my old computer ran Windows XP on 32 bit, the new one...

Do I need Windows XP Mode?
Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with program compatibility and Windows XP programs should be installed directly on Windows 7. Windows XP Mode runs many older Windows XP productivity programs and that are not natively compatible with Windows 7, thus helping realize cost savings and reduce possible operational downtime by extending the life of existing software. Visit the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to find software that works with Windows 7.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

It's the best of both worlds: The new Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop.

Designed primarily with small- and medium-sized businesses in mind, Windows XP Mode comes as a separate download and works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. Windows XP Mode also requires virtualization software such as Windows Virtual PC. Both are available free on the Microsoft website.

See, all programs and games grow old, and computer operating systems change as well.

What i would advice you to do, is to ask the repair man to install Windows XP on a Virtual Computer inside your computer. And install the game there.
