Question about KitchenAid Ovens

1 Answer

I have a Kitchen Aid oven, model #KEBS107DWH2 and the hinges are "sprung" so the door will not close all the way to turn off the oven door sensor, unless you prop something up against the door. That said, I paid Sears to replace the hinges and it cost me $154.00 in 2007. Now I have the same problem and I am going to have to do the same thing. The Sears technician said that this was a known problem with the door when he fixed it in 2007. The part number for the hinge is 8185503 and I expect it to be fixed with no charges to me by Kitchen Aid or Sears, unless of course you want to lose a customer for life vs. keeping a customer for life.

You are very lucky if that machine lasted as long as it has. if you replaced those hinges in 2007 that's 10 years. The last one i bought they said we will be lucky if we get five to ten years out of the new one. Unless you want to put money in this one its probably cheaper to buy a new one in the long run.
They could not care less if you tell them you won't buy anything from them again. I had a large company official tell me that.

SOURCE: my husband did not put a nail (or something) into

this is a serious pain
down a few hundred of these overe the years
ok you will need long needle nose pliers
and a sturdly flat head screw driver
try to reach it with the needle nose
and usae the flat head as a pincher try to work it behind the hinge
these springs are 110 lbs so it will take some effort to get them out
short of this you will need to drop them out of the cavity on each side of the drawer

SOURCE: thermador oven (c301u) door hinges weak, how to install new hinge

This is a relatively easy fix however you will need to remove the door and it is heavy!

Start by opening the door completely and engage the small "locks" that are at the base of the hinge. This will ensure that the spring loaded hinges do not "spring open" when you remove the door. You then will need to remove the hinges from the door via a series of phillips head screws that hold the hinge assembly in place. The new hinges must be "preloaded" into the Open position using a vise or some means of holding the hinge in place while you use a small section of pipe to provide leverage needed to open the hinge so that the Locks can be engaged.

Once the new hinges are "pre-loaded" and the locks are engaged, you can reverse the procedure to re-install the hinges into the door and re-install the door.

Good luck!!

The hinges are commercially avaialble from Applianceparts.com

I took the oven door off of my GE JGB645SEK3SS kitchen range - then mistakenly sprung the hinges. How do I reset them?

The hinges would have to be pried out of the slots and clamped in the open position to allow the door to be reinstalled. Door removal is never recommended maintenance.

Why won't door stay open?

Hello. Most often, any problems with the door opening or closing involves the hinge assemblies being damaged in some way. The part number for the pack of 2 hinges(right/left) is 8303989. I hope this helps you!

Replace inner glass on kitchen aid wall oven

This can be quite a difficult issue to deal with.. This is really a job for a pro technician, honestly. But if you should choose to try it. Remove the oven door from machine, by opening door slightly and looking at hinges you should be able to be able to slide a small arm on the hinge that locks the hinge and stops the door from closing. You then hold door and move toward closing it and lever the hinges out of their space and carefully place door on floor. Then you have to disassemble the door and remove glass. The video below IS NOT EXACT but will help you with what your up against.

MY Kitchen Aid Superba Oven door KERC507Y will not stay tightly closed, what can be done to fix this problem?

The only real fix is to replace the springs on the door closer. Sounds like they got stretched or bent. Usually you can replace the whole hinge in about 30 minutes and that should help.
