Connect the device in Storage Device (USB Mass Storage) Mode and then format the storage disc to FAT
you can use the DOS command:
format X: /fs:fat

This idea came from another tech not me.

When i switch it on it says incorrect format refprmat the player and when i connect it to the system it says i/o device error

Sounds like a format error on the storage. The bad news is the tunes stored on it are probably gone.
Do you have a mini USB B cable that you can connect to a PC? With this you can reformat the internal memory and the SD card.
Good luck.
