Can I impose another question, please? I called a repairman, and just forget that he sounded like he was smoking pot, and could barely string together a sentence, but when I told him that I had gotten your advice and told him the parts that you said needed to be replaced, he hedged and said that probably the whole board would need to be replaced and he wouldn't know until he looked inside. Sounds reasonable, but I am always on the defense about ripoff repairmen. I mean, how would I know? He very reluctantly looked up the part numbers and told me they were only $4.50 each. That's great! Ok, my question now is, how much labor time should I expect for him to either replace the two parts, or the whole board? I'm NOT going to take it to him, but I would like to have the knowledge before calling someone else.Sorry to say, but there are some people who will take advantage of someone's ignorance. Isn't that mean? Lol...So, what can I reasonably expect? And thanks ahead of time.

The problem is in ssb. [scale board] I call it the signal board. But briefly part, location 1H00 [color crystal] PN#823827736071 needs replaced. And caps locations 2H08 and 2H09,PN#223886975478 need replaced. Hope this will help you...these are surface mount repairs that require skills!!!!

Actually there are three parts to replace. Two surface mount capacitors and a color crystal surface mount. To work on the actual board is labor consuming. I would guess at the component level [working on the actual board] , and while he is at it, have them replace filter capacitor 2074, which is a 25volt 2200Mf at 105 degrees. This will save a second trip back to the shop. So now we are talking about four parts total [$35]. Labor would be at $150 to $175. Parts and labor at top end about $200. To replace the board would be about $200 plus labor. And eventually you will have the same parts to replace. Sometimes repairing the actual board is the best value..as it is improved on! The repairman you described, makes me mad...it makes the rest of us repairman look like ripoffs! But there are some good people out there, find one with a little effort! Good Luck!

All the information is here as you read the comments. My personal guess would be in the neighborhood of $150 plus. Replacing the board can double the repair price. Please see an authorized Philips Service Center!

I replaced only the 27.000MHz resonator at location 1H00 with a 27.000MHz crystal oscillator (digikey p/n: XC1672CT-ND) and it has been working great for a week now. I bought three different ones to see which would fit best because I couldn't find any that were near the same dimensions as the original resonator. This one was just long enough to contact the edges of the solder pads. I did not replace the capacitors 2H08 and 2H09 because they were not labeled on this paticular board.

How do you disassemble a Magnavox 37'' LCD?

I would use a permanent marker to mark the first set of screws that hold the perimeter, and put these in a ziplock bag and mark perimeter. You will be actually marking the slot these screws are in, and the bag should also be same marked color. The center screws with another color, screws in another zip lock bag and mark center screws. You may also ad the count to the ziplock bag. Do the same for the A/V connections etc and internal screws...etc. This is tedious but will produce a happy reassemble.

I lost the picture on my 37" LCD model 37MF331D/3. The audio is fine.

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

My 2 year old Magnavox 37MF231D/37 LCD TV just blew the picture screen. The audio comes through fine, but the screen is dead black with no menus, info, nothing. I tried various inputs, same result. I...

The problem can be in the backlight inverter board (hard to get to), or the main power supply module may not be working. Look at the power supply first since it is easy to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors.

Magnavox 42 inch flat panel cannot get a picture

TV may need software upgrade. Go to menu, find instalation, find software upgrade, find. If version is bellow FL2D-r23 (#23) TV needs upgrade.
Get upgrade on the internet onto a USB flash drive. The file may be a ZIP file, if so, unzip to a folder in PC then put the file to the USB drive.
Turn TV on, plug in the USB drive, wait til the upgrade is finished. Unplug USB drive, turn TV off w/remote.
The TV will then turn on by its self and the upgrade is complete.
Hope this works

Magnavox 37MF331D/37 keep asking for software upgrade

Your set either has a bad SSB (small signal board) or needs a software upgrade. Try the upgrade first by going to http://www.m4c.magnavox.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=US&slg=AEN&cat=FLAT_TV_CA&sct=LCD_LARGE_30_40_SU&grp=TV_GR&session=20090830171041_4.131.87.247&ctn=37MF331D/37&mid=Link_Software&hlt=Link_Software
Download the latest software release for your set then follow install instructions that are contained in the user manual for your set.

Philips Magnavox 37" LCD Flat Screen 37MF331D Have replaced power board, main board, hit power a faint light on whole screen for about 2 seconds the nothing.

Disconnect the LVDS Cable that runs from the small signal board to the display panel and apply power,if the screen comes on,the Small signal board (aka Scaler Bd ) is the faulty board. other than that, all that's really left that has gone bad for me is the logic board.
