I have a Gateway MX6214 and the fan quit working. It comes on when I start and shut off the computer. I know it can work why doesn't it run during use? Any suggestions?

The fan in laptop generally run at startup and once there is a need. They generally just cool the cpu (processor) when needed. Once the laptop is not showing signs of overheating. There is no need to worry.

Testimonial: "I downloaded a program called fan speed. If I let my computer get to 136 or so I pwer it off. I assumed that it was too hot. No fan turns on, I pwr of"

My computer continues to shut-down for no apparent reason while booting up. It will get to bios then abruptly shutdown. Please Help!!

Maybe something is defective from the factory? Can you bring it back and exchange it for another? Is it a desktop or a laptop? If it's a desktop, maybe remove a side panel and aim a small fan at the inside. Do you know how to start up your computer in safe mode? Maybe try starting it in safe mode and see if you can do a system restore, do you know what that is and how to do it? Google will explain it to you, but I'd suggest those steps.

Gateway mx6214 will not powerup -bought a new power cord and it still doesn't work. What could be the problem?

It is the plug in the laptop that is most likely the cause, plug the power supply in the laptop. Now put your thumb on the plug at the laptop, as you bend it sideways hit the power button repeatedly to see if it will power up, failing that take the main battery out of the laptop and use power supply only. Please take the main battery out first to see if your power supply will start the computer if the computer starts up change the battery.

My internet connection via Ethernet vanishes when i disable my wireless connection. how can i keep this from happening. it's on a old Gateway MX6214 PC Notebook.

Sounds like it's connecting through wireless so when it's switched off, it stops.

Go to 'my computer' if you're using XP and right click, click 'properties'.

Go to hardware, then Device manager.

Look downlown list and choose 'network adaptors'.

See if both wireless and ethernet are working OK. Use properties to check.

MY Gateway GT4016 Will not start anymore, i first replaced the power Suply and nothing happened. the fan runs and a light blinks then it shuts down again, i used to start it by just pressing the button and...

Make sure all fans are running power supply one to hehe Maybe a bad power button? I had a gateway that did some thing very close to that because the cpu fan was not turning and a hp that did that because the power supply fan was not turning. Thats where I would start then make sure the mem is seated good and not bad you know the drill ;) if you replaced the power supply with a factory replacment it should be a voltage or wattage problem. Might also try a hard boot the power plug take the cmos bat out hold the power button down for 20 or 30 secs some people say to leave the cmos bat out and try to fire it up. I know that works on some laptops but I always had better luck putting it back in for desktops cant hurt to try it. If you have two ram sticks in it pull the # 2 one and try to fire it up if nothing changes swap the # 2 one with # 1 leaveing slot 2 open and try it that will tell ya if it is a bad ram stick I dunno just my two cents hope it helps

My gateway MA1 laptop running win xp has cooling problems

Contact GATEWAY, and get them to fix your laptop.
The fan is designed to run at "full-speed" when you first turn it on, and then there are temperature sensors that slow the fan down, to minimize noise, while the computer is "cool" enough that the fan does not need to run. The sensor is malfunctioning, and is not turning-on (or turning-up) the fan when the computer gets "warm".

My Gateway computer shuts down ramdomly. This

Listen for fans coming on, as this sounds like overheating issue. If fans kick in and then stay constant or dont work at all.
The link is for Notebook hardware control, this will monitor the temp among other things (only reference as a guide any software can give you an indication but not exact temp) Generally if a laptop hits 90c it will auto cutout to stop major hardware failure normal running temp (40-55c upwards depending on use) http://www.pbus-167.com/
If the machine is overheating it could be due to blocked vents, faulty heatsink, fans not working or incorrect fitting and thermal paste.
In all honesty if this is due to overheat problems, as the machine has been cutting out my strong advice would be to do all the above ESPECIALLY re-apply thermal paste (arctic silver5) to cpu, it takes about 100-200 hours of use to start to work 100%.
hope this helps, let me know if i can be of further help

Gateway MX6447 system fan doesn't come on during normal use; the

On my computer, in Control Panel/Device Manager/System Devices I find five (five!) ACPI Fan devices listed. None of them have any adjustable parameters. However, in regedit I find two settings for each: 1) Slow the processor before increasing fan speed (this is ON), and 2) Increase fan speed before slowing the processor (this is OFF).

So...on my computer I am going to say there is no registry setting to make the fan run all the time...can't say that's also true for yours.
