HP iPAQ H4150 Pocket PC Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 06, 2010

I am trying to install the Windows Activesync 3.7, that came with the iPAQ h4150 Pocket PC. I am directed to Windows Mobile Device Centre, to download the 6.0 version. When I try to install this I get a message "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance". This is on a new PC running Vista Home Premium +64bit with service pack 2. I have been unable to get help from Microsoft. Regards. Barry Powis.

Window Vista syncronizing with iPAQ 3835 problem

In order to sync any iPAQ with Windows Vista, you will need to download and install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx.

Activesync will only work for XP Operating Systems and earlier.
Notes
  • To find out whether your version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. The version is listed after System Type.
  • You can use Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 only with phones running Windows Mobile 2003 or later. ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center won’t work with Windows Embedded CE 4.2 or 5.0, Pocket PC 2002, or Smartphone 2002 devices. (To see which Windows Mobile operating system you’re using, and if your phone doesn’t have a touch screen, click Start > Settings > About. If your phone has a touch screen, click Start > Settings > System tab > About.) To sync content to any of these devices, you must use a USB or serial cable and your computer’s Internet connection and File Explorer.
  • You must use Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, or Office Outlook 2007 to sync your e-mail, contacts, tasks, and notes from your computer.
  • You must use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer the first time you use Windows Mobile Device Center to sync.

Can't turn it on or off. it just loads and then doesn't go to windows

you might have a problem with you ROM image.

try downloading the rom image form hp.com and upload it (flash it) to your device using the RUU.exe file, activesync connection and a usb sync & charge cable.

You can download the Microsoft ActiveSync from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync-download.mspx

This package contains the rapi.dll inside it.

Note: Microsoft ActiveSync is for windows XP and earlier version only. In case of Microsoft VISTA download Windows Mobile Device Center.

Is a compaq ipaq h3835 compatable with vista

No, you do not need an upgrade. You'll need to be download only "Windows Mobile Device Center" to your Vista PC instead of ActiveSync. (ActiveSync is not compatible with Vista, instead Microsoft changed the software a bit called "Windows Mobile Device Center" and can be downloaded from Microsoft's website.) Your Vista PC should also recognize your ipaq PPC without needing any driver CD. I hope it helps.

HP iPAQ 4150 battles Vista -- HELP

The Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center requires that the first sync be made via the USB sync cable. After the h4150 is plugged into the Vista machine, the WMDC opens and prompts you through setting up a partnership. Then you can set the h4150 to sync via Bluetooth.

ActiveSync works fine with Vista. Ignore that other guys post.

Hook up

Hey, what you need to to do is download an application called Activesync. It will open up as soon as you plug in your ipaq and I bet you the rest will be history. It worked for me.
