If you would like to calibrate your screen...
Turn the DS on without a DS card inserted (or with auto mode turned off).
Then touch the DS icon in the bottom middle of the screen.
Press the far right yellow icon, with a crosshair in it.
You will then be taken to the calibrate screen.
Touch the small red squares on the screen as they appear.
Press confirm, exit menu.
If your DS wont calibrate you need a new touch screen these are cheap to pick up on ebay.. and easy to fit with time patience and the right tools!

I have had the same problem,
1) try using a toothbrush around the edge of the screen, nice and gentle and between the plastic and the screen itself. Sometimes there is dust and crud that stops things working correctly, otherwise ....
2) buy the touch screen off e-bay for around 3 quids and fit it yourself, not a seriously difficult job (buy a tri-wing screwdriver as well so you can open up the DS)

The touch screen may be faulty but can be replaced. The SLOT 1 game slot may have bent pins or broken pins. Bent pins can be easily fixed (with care and patience) but replacing the SLOT 1 or the touch screen is quite difficult. It is probably repairable but only by someone who knows what they are doing.
