Sharp 36in no color, suddenly black and white. TV is approx. 6yrs. old is a tube but has flat screen. All channels black and white, gaming, and dvds. Problem was sudden. Input channels still is shown in red.

depends on the tv and dvd player. old dvds you plug in the cable with three colors. red white and yellow to the tv input of the same color. now a days dvds and flat screens use the hdmi cable.
Some inputs on tvs won't process the color signal. Try one of the other inputs. Mine does the same. If u have already used the working ones on something else, U will need a switch to select one or the other available at Radio Shack if u can find one.
Bring it back to the place of purchase since the item is under warranty, this is a manufacture defect and you are in your perfect right to have a replacement.
Wow that's interesting, was there anybody watching your home while you were gone? There is a possibility that someone simply turned down the color level with the color control? Check that first. It's an unusual symptom. With composite video, component video or HDMI it's not usually possible to experience that defect. Since the color (chrominance signal) is usually inseparable from the luminance (black and white signal) I would check the color setting first. Other wise your set has become unable to detect that color signal... I bet it's a setting rather than a defect.
