Fan no compressor will run

I have a Whirlpool dehumidifier that is only a couple of years old in my basement. The fan has always run continuously, though the compressors kicks on and off. Everything has now stopped running. The control panel lights are on, but it won't run. The bucket is empty and properly seated. Any advice?

Why does compressor continue running, even with dehumidifier turned off?

So I just had this happen with my Frigidaire fad704dwd dehumidifier. I went to basement and heard it running and sounded off. The compressor was running fan was off which is bad and humidity said 30. I then pushed the off button and it stayed running. I was able to fix it. To make long story short it was a bad ground. I took the plastic back, sides, and front off. There was a green ground (main ground) and Green/yellow ground (fan ground) on the front coil with a bunch of rust. Removed the grounds connected them both together and cleaned the surface area and used a new stainless screw nut and screw to remount the wires to evaporator coil. Everything started working fine after that and I put it back together. Good Luck

Whirlpool Basement Dehumidifer is freezing up about l/3 from the bottom. Compressor will not turn off. Coils were cleaned and cleaned fan is running freely. Sitting in well ventilated area and temp...

IIt may very well be that the the air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned. But, before doing this, turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Allow the unit to completely thaw, before removing the filter.Never operate the unit without the filter in place, As this could damage the unit.

Hope this helps you & thanks for choosing FixYa.

Whirlpool DEHUMIDIFIER Model - AD70USS1 does fan NOT does not cycle off anymore in the low settings as it should

According to the Owner's Manual for your model, the fan will run continually, if the unit is set in continuous mode or if the unit is in defrost mode. Once the unit senses a rise in the humidity level, the compressor will start up again. Also, a dirty or clogged air filter will cause the fan to run more that it should.

Hope this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Product is about 6 years old. Used in basement. Worked great until this year. Now will run continuously but collect little water. What type of service do I need? This is a 65 pint per day Whirlpool.

There is some service that you can do ... Clean the filter and the cooling coils, regularly. Check the humidity level that you have the unit set on. It may be set to low and there's just not that much humidity in the air at this time, for it to collect. From what you said, it sounds like you may have it set on continuous cycle which could account for the lack of a lot of water in the bucket. In continuous run, the fan stays ON all the time. It's supposed to do that, so that the air is constantly moving and the sensor only turns the compressor ON, if it senses a humidity level 5% higher than what you have it set for. Try running the unit on a 1 or 2 hour cycle (if your model will do that) rather than continuous cycle.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Compressor and fan both kick on when starting. Frosts up (normal for this time of year) but then compressor stops but fan continues to run but compressor does not start up again....

From what you have described, it sounds like the defrost sensor may be bad. However, if you're operating the unit in a temperature of 40 degrees or lower. That's the problem. If in a basement application, keep in mind the floor temperature is lower than the air temperature.

Also, cleaning the air intake filter on a regular basis will help.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know.

Unit runs but no water collects in bucket. Unit is over a year old and has run continuously that whole time. Up till now it has performed beautifully. Is it just worn out?

Hi;
Your dehumidifier is similar to a refridgerator or air conditioner. It has a compressor and coils, and a fan. Basically, the unit has to **** in air with it's fan, and as the humid air goes across the cold coils, the humidity condenses in to water. If the coils are not getting cold, they won't condense any water, or if the fan isn't running, or the coils are dirty. If you check your unit over, see if you can tell if anything isn't working. Make sure the control knob is set at the highest setting. If the compressor lost it;s refridgerant charge, and won't get cold, it isn't probably worth fixing

Fan runs, no water collected

It appears that these units have a history of defectiveness. I bought one in late 2010 and it pooped early 2012. If the model is still made, buy a new one, return the defective one in the new unit's packing materials for a refund. Or keep the second (new) unit as a back-up, because the new (first) one may just fail again a short while later.
