Sony DCR-DVD608E DVD Problem

My Sony DCR-DVD608E DVD camcorder refused on first try to eject the dvd-disc. When it did, it gave an error-message saying "select/choose(?) aspect ratio ..." (not sure). Three times in succession, it allowed me to start recording and some way through the disc gave the proble.

I returned the camera to the local SONY office. They said that nothing was wrong with the camera. They tried to recover the recordings on the discs using software supplied by SONY Technical HQ, but were not successful.

A number of different data recovery services were tried. The last one said that they had used DOS based inhouse software, and that they had succeeded in downloading some data but could not recover the video clips.

The videos are of immense personal value to me. Could someone please help?

Reported fixes of this error strangely enough is to turn the camera off and give it a good hard whack on its sides (not too hard though!) then turn the camera on and see if the error message has gone. Apparently its a lens error.

Good luck!!!

I am unable to finalize the dvd disc....camcorder shows "access error"....but I am able to view my videos in camcorder from the same dvd disc

It seems the "access error" message happens because the lens doesn't open all the way. If you try to pull the lens, it does not happen however hard you try.

Here's how I've been fixing the problem as it happens intermittently to me. Power on the camera, then I gently tap it on a hard surface (like a desk). Mine will then work for months until I repeat.

If this is the same situation which you are facing, the above solution works.!!
